Ann Coulter comes unarmed to a pie fight-the TRUE story
Edited on Wed Jan-11-06 02:28 PM by noahmijo
*UPDATE* I just read an article in the Daily WildCat from then and I apologize his expenses were around $27,500 however they state that 14,500 tickets were sold which I think is off considering there appeared to be at least a 1000 people standing where seats were not available so I stand by my 15,500+ estimate. The Wildcat was a pretty good paper from what I remember but like all news media outlets (big or small) they don't always get their numbers totally right.

I was a senior at the University of Arizona when the infamous pie incident happened happened. I followed it pretty closely.

Alright first off the bitch was brought to the UofA ON OUR FUCKING TUITION DOLLARS to satisfy the college republicans who were steamed that we brought Micheal Moore in.

Now when Micheal Moore came you had to pay $5 to get in.

His venue was the McKale Center-the infamous home of our Wildcats.....he completely sold the place out to the point of standing room only for hundreds of people.

The school made a PROFIT of nearly $70,000 on his appearance.

Now this bitch comes and there were NO ticket sales therefore her coming was being done on the backs of us the students.

It was FREE to see her, and she barely grabbed 100 attendees.....there were more people protesting outside of the place than there were who attended to swallow more of her bogus bullshit.

Now I don't agree that throwin a pie at her (despite that it does give to my more sinister side) was the best course of action, however to act like the school should be entitled to any kind of damages is ridiculous-her very appearance at a school that is largely liberal was the damage to the school.

And I don't mean damage in the we won't tolerate opposing views, no that's fine, but the point is the school not only paid for her entire trip and speech, but that fell on OUR backs, the student's backs, who largely voiced that they did not agree with having to pay for an appearance from her, but that they WOULD in fact be willing to shell out a few bucks to hear Micheal Moore crack wise on the * administration and republicans in general.

That's what you call Democracy. If she came in on own dollar and wanted to speak to everyone on campus with a big megaphone guess what? there is a free speech zone clearly labeled on the UofA mall, she can join the local psycho preachers there and spew all the bullshit she wants-she would just be ignored but her rights would be upheld. (Of course later security would escort her out for tresspassing-being on UofA property and not being a student or staff member)

Republican Conservatives talk a big game about how they support free market and ideas, however clearly they cannot put their money where their fucking mouths are.

Period.

~Noahmijo

PS I hear from some of my pals in Refuse and Resist that they are going to start an "Al-Pieda" Training Camp in which they let people throw pies at effigies of Rush and Coulter and other RW nuts.

:)

2. I'm having trouble with the math though...
How does the school make nearly $70,000 on attendance of less than 1000 people, at $5 a head? Did they sell T-shirts or cassette tapes or something?

4. There are approx 15,000 seats at McKale-almost 15,500+ tickets were sold
Edited on Wed Jan-11-06 02:21 PM by noahmijo
from what i heard from student gov. Interestingly they sold as many tickets as they could in terms of how many people could fit in the venue without breaking fire code..not by number of actual seats in the venue.

Moore's expenses were around $4k the rest was all profit. For all I know it could've been MORE than $70k profit.

5. Oh, okay. Thanks!
I read "hundreds of people" and now I realize that was the standing crowd, not the attendance. Thanks for clearing that up!

Was Mann Coulter put in the same auditorium? (prolly not) It would make quite a picture comparison, wouldn't it--packed to the gills for Moore, vs. 100 Coulterites in a stadium that holds 15,000!

7. In that case, I say....
Pictures, we need pictures!

SRO-crowd

vs.

lots of wasted seats

(of course, one could argue that Coutlerite attendance represents a lot of wasted minds as well...)

12. Love this excerpt from the article...
Small groups in the crowd constantly heckled Moore during his speech, and he took it lightheartedly at first, using it as an opportunity to sarcastically respond to their political views, until it became so disruptive he told them directly to stop.

Moore commented on the fact that they wouldn't stop yelling, no matter what he said, even when he gave them 60 seconds to get the chants out of their systems.

"It's like AM radio and the Fox News Channel, all day long all they do is scream," he said.

The hecklers toned down about 45 minutes into Moore's speech, only after several groups were ushered out of the stadium by security.

The Dean of Students formally warned some groups and some people were escorted from the stadium because they were so disruptive, said Allistair Chapman, ASUA president.

"That's fine outside, but inside, freedom of speech only goes so far before it's disruptive," Chapman said.

Hee hee! A-holes get their due. Prolly just as well they were kicked out, they had to go stand in line to get those prime seats at the Coulter event

13. Haha Here lemme give you some inside info on that
Edited on Wed Jan-11-06 02:37 PM by noahmijo
He actually invited them to come to the mic and speak their piece. He said they would get 10 minutes if they wanted.

When all they could do is stand where they were and shout "Four More years!!" Mike said okay you've said your piece now is that all? I'll give you a whole ten minutes if you've got something to say other than repeating that same chant.

All they could do was chant

So Mike said "okay that's it then all you can do is chant that crap you have nothing to say the offer was on the table you declined now please be quiet.

After awhile they kept trying to heckle so Mike turned around said

"HEY! I OFFERED YOU YOUR 10 MINUTES TO SAY WHAT YOU WANTED ALREADY...SHUT THE FUCK UP!!!!"

The crowd went wild......

I thought for a split second you were going to say she was $40 a head, but it would have been just her and the crickets then.

College republicans = spoiled kids who have rich daddys and hate poor people.
