Laura Bush: We know who you are
Edited on Tue May-02-06 07:38 PM by linazelle
Laura Bush has spent most of her husband's siege walking around in what appears to be a halcyon daze. Always smiling...the Mother Theresa of...er...um (I'm searching for a word other than first lady because that would imply that her husband is actually the president)...

Word: Women who have inhabited the White House.

Anyways...her scowling face and slits-for-eyes expression at both the King funeral and at the Press Dinner reveal the true ugliness that no face lifts or botox can remove. She is as evil and corrupt in the current ripoff of Americans as her husband and the rest of his gang of thieves. She is just like the lying, snarling Condoleeza Rice and hateful Ann Coulter. Scowling must be a prerequisite for the feminazis.

Laura we hardly knew ye. Too bad we do now.

1. I don't know whether she's evil or just comfortable.
I'm leaning toward comfortable.

11. I agree with you, I just don't see her as being as capable ...
... of pure evil as her MIL. Her MIL is vile and hateful, and I don't remember hearing laura bush spew that sort of hatred. Not that I'm a fan of laura bush; I'm not, but I think she just kind of glides through her happy, carefree life comfortable with who she is and who she is married to. She must have seen some damned ugly things, but she's part of the bush package.

16. I know what you are saying, but the fact that she HAS seen those
things, and still scowls when people don't fawn over her and her husband is why I have a problem with her.

24. She does seem to admire herself a bit much for my tastes.
I wonder what she and her husband will be doing in five - ten years. Realistically, not that I expect them to be doing five - ten in five - ten years.

I just cannot imagine them doing anything much for anyone other than themselves. What did Ford do after he left office? I cannot recall hearing about anything he did to visibly serve the country. Honestly, he may have, and I may have just missed it. Reagan was pretty much fried by the time he left office to do anything useful. The elder bush has at least done some fund raising for charitable groups, but has his wife done anything for anyone?? I doubt it.

Of course, I admire what Pres and Mrs Carter have done with Habitat for Humanity, and what he has done around the globe as an election observer.

And Bill Clinton has been involved in countless initiatives to benefit others, while Hillary Clinton has moved to a new level of service since the Clintons left the White House.

But seriously, what the hell will these bushes have to offer? Who would believe that they would do anything for the greater good, and not their own self-serving interests?

10. I'd have said that earlier--during the halcyon daze...
But her responses of late show her to be more than just happy to be living amongst the riches siphoned from taxpayers. She wants more than comfort--she expects people to submit like her husband. Somebody ought to tell her she can't have her cake and eat it too.

Even if it was an accident, it could have been vehicular manslaughter.

to honor a Catholic school's 6th graders who have been doing a project to help seniors sign up for Medicare D.

When the local reporter asked her about the problems people have had with the Medicare D program, she just said "it's a new program" and it's good.

And she praised the young people because they can "help the old people use the internet"

What a loser she is.

30. She's not evil, she's a carbon copy of my mom.
Edited on Tue May-02-06 08:30 PM by Yollam
I feel like I know Laura, because she is exactly like my mom. They both went through the same schools for white, affluent to middle-class girls in Texas, both embody the Junior League ideal of "southern femininity", both are EXTREMELY superficial social climbers who work very hard at staying blissfully ignorant to the state of the world or why people like Laura's husband are largely responsible for that misery.

They grew up in the fifties, and they still think it's reasonable for a lady to live in a fantasy world where everyone is nice and polite and everything is safe, clean, and white, and one never associates with anyone outside their own class. She and my mom both married money (in my mom's case she had to leave my dad to do it) because you can't have social standing without money, and social standing is EVERYTHING to these women.

If you want to understand Laura Bush, go to a Junior League meeting anywhere in the south. JL is FULL of women just like this - it's like they're living in a freaking time warp.

But it really isn't evil. They are the product of a generation when affluent girls were taught that proper young ladies didn't concern themselves with politics and the like. They were to make a beautiful home and make their important husbands look good. I'm not trying to justify that, but that is the culture she is a product of, and like my mom, she doesn't know how to be anything else. She sure doesn't know how to be REAL.

Seriously, Laura and my mother have the exact same accent, mannerisms, frozen-faced smile and everything. It's uncanny.

37. ah those were the days weren`t they?
but a problem upset her vision of the "the knight in shining armor". she married a self centered drug and booze addled mental midget who failed at everything he did. his failures college, jobs, marriage, and raising his children and his years of abuse is written in her eyes. there is nothing left in her to give. i feel somehow sad for women like this, they never understood until to late that there was no "happily ever after".

i grew up with women just like laura and they withered then died inside years before their time

38. Yes, I feel sorry for my mom as well.
I know that she cares for her kids, but it's very hard for her to let her facade down, even enough to just express some affection in an open, genuine way. She had a nervous breakdown when we were little kids - she was hospitalized and we didn't see here for weeks. She wasn't really cut out to be a mom, but had kids because that what just what you were supposed to do. She still walks around with the frozen grin, never letting up. I don't think she's happy, but I don't think she even knows what happy is. At least her right-wing Limbaugh-loving husband dotes on her, so I'm thankful for that. The rest of us can only take her in small doses.

I do feel sad for her. It must be grueling keeping up that facade ALL THE TIME.

43. Okay, I 'think', I don't know.
But I'm INTIMATELY familiar with the personality type. My mom would behave exactly the same in the same situations. My mom has met with Laura and George on several occasions and has photos of them together on her shelf. She says Laura is "lovely" and "gracious". Not surprising you think so, SINCE SHE'S YOUR CLONE, Mom.

31. I don't think she's a bad person, but I do think she has been so insulated
from reality she has no concept of the consequeces of her husbands and cronies actions. She thinks things are wonderful and can't understand why so many are unhappy. Bet she hasn't bought a loaf of bread, a gallon of milk, gassed up a car, or waited in line for anything in 15 years.

40. Totally agree, Splat.
She, like her husband, is clueless. She doesn't ever have to worry about money. That's a huge divide between her and the rest of the world. She doesn't have to worry about her children having food, medical care, and a safe environment. She doesn't have a child in the military. She doesn't have to clean a house, fix supper, do laundry, or shop for groceries. She has a staff. 24-7.
She does have many responsibilities as First Lady. But, like you say, she's insulated. She's not out talking to us. Her world is carefully managed. She sees only those who adore her husband and her. She receives compliments to her face. Not confrontation.
She doesn't have to live this way. Rosalyn Carter didn't. Hillary didn't. They got outside the First Lady box. They weren't the "flower in the lapel". They dug in and got their hands dirty. The job was more than decorative mate who speaks soothingly and looks at her husband with Nancy Reagan mooncalf adoration.
Laura has chosen the passive role. It suits her.
(by the way....we haven't heard much about her "ending gang violence" have we?)

42. About being clueless...
I don't believe Laura or ** are clueless. If I believe that, then I give them a get out of jail free card. Bush's base loves that he is clueless--just like them. They love thinking that he is as dumb as they are. I don't think he is--it's an act. Laura's scowl proves she's not clueless either. They know what they are doing--they just don't like it when you call them on it.

"slits-for-eyes expression"

I've always said Lar00a was either cross-eyed or given some type of facial muscle stimulants. And the glazed over look in combination with the half dumb-fuck accent and intelligence of a librarian really pull it all together.
