Losing a child or grandchild is a tragedy |
|
but isn't it amazing how quickly action is taken when it's James Baker's grandchild. Laws are about to be changed with support on both sides -this is a government of plutocrats. The coalminers can only dream.

with James Baker and his daughter in law about the tragic drowning of his grand daughter/her daughter in a hot tub and their campaign for safety standards.
And yes, no depleted uranium or lack of coal mine standards but instant action from both parties.

Virginia Baker drowned four years ago.
Vroom.
At that pace, mine safety standards will be discussed in Congress in 2010.

but the poor don't have too many pools or hot tubs and they sure have few friends willing to enforce regulations. I thought the paradigm Baker supports leaves regulations to business interests.
As I said losing a child or grandchild is very painful but some kids appear more special than others.

2. At least there was no white phosphorous, cluster bombs, |
|
depleted uranium, smart bombs, dumb missiles and the like involved. It was a tragic accident pure and simple.

6. It was a very sad story, but it was filled with so much irony |
|
If James Baker had spent more time understanding the cases that John Edwards (Democratic Vice Presidential candidate 2004) had taken on instead of touting the "Trial Lawyers/Tort Reform" refrain, they would have learned that Edwards' most famous case was Lakey v Sta-Rite Industries in 1996.
A 5 year old girl was disemboweled, yet lived was seriously injured by a faulty pool/spa drain that the company manufactured. The company had 12 prior suits with similar claims and continued to make and sell drain covers without any warnings to consumers. He was able to get 25 Million for the parents in order to cover her medical needs.
Another ironic twist is that Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, democrat Florida, has introduced legislation for Federal legislation for Pool Safety. In 2000, Wasserman-Schultz succeeded in passing the same regulation on a State level in Florida. Baker was asking people to go to her website and support her legislation.
His granddaughter died in 2002, years after these prominent Democrats were fighting corporations to make their products more safe for the average American.
Perhaps, if Baker had spent more time on Americans, instead of representing the Saudi Royal family in the 911 case, his granddaughter might still be with us.
It truly was a very sad story.
