Did you see any Monkey Bidness in Ohio Election Buckeyes?

Strange things were happening again in Ohio and guess what...BLACKWELL WON...What A Surprise.

Cleveland Polling Problem Delays Ohio Election Results

snip

In at least two counties, there were reports of people leaving without voting when poll workers did not have machines operating as precincts opened. Poll workers at a neighborhood center in Cleveland did not show up for the scheduled 6:30 a.m. opening, said Cheryl Ellis, a community outreach manager for the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections.

The polling site eventually opened with replacement workers about 1 p.m., Ellis said. She did not know how many voters had been turned away by then.

snip

The American Civil Liberties Union of Ohio, along with Democratic gubernatorial candidate Bryan Flannery, called on the secretary of state's office to extend voting hours statewide.

But James Lee, spokesman for Secretary of State Kenneth Blackwell, said the state could not do that because federal law mandates that the polls close at 7:30 p.m.

Did any Ohio DUers witness, or hear anything about, any unusual BULLSHIT yesterday? How did the election look from ground zero?

2. I think that enough people are pissed at the GOP now, that if the
GOP tries to stel the next election, there will be blood in the streets. I hate to see it, but I think we are sitting on a powder keg and I think the GOP/Diebold, is playing with the matches! Will America stand for another MASSIVE ripoff?

3. The Average Amerikan Is An Idiot
I think if they want to swing the vote 10-20%, the average idiot is more concerned with who won American Idol, than whether there was election FRAUD by it's leaders.

And the democrats have so little voice on anything, they'll either remain silent, or be smeared by the repubs as sore losers.

The end is almost here folks. Next stop, November. I still say there is no way the repubs will ever let the Dems get control of either house. They may pick up a few seats, just to make it look legit, but they'll NEVER allow control. That's what those Assholes are all about.....CONTROL. We're in a Dictatorship, remember?

5. ? re: Fed Law polls close at 7:30pm. Is this because they're primaries or.
Edited on Wed May-03-06 07:07 AM by WePurrsevere
...or does Fed law state poll closing times are carved in stone no matter what circumstances arise?

It's just that the last time I checked the times polls close, at least for regular elections, can vary quite a bit from state to state (and sometimes even within states) so Blackwell's office saying "federal law mandates that the polls close at 7:30 p.m." grabbed my attention.

edited to add: I Googled quick and it looks like Ohio normally closes polls at 7:30? So I'm guessing it's carved in stone once a state has chosen a closing time? Although I can sort of understand a fixed closing time... if there are problems with people being able to vote there should be some leeway so their vote can be counted.

21. Right, so w/ Blackwell apparently it's the law only if it goes his way eh?
But there's not a problem in Ohio... r-i-i-ight (and horses quack and pigs have wings).

When the polls open late they should be able to close later. If they can't open for some reason it is the responsibility of the local, state and fed government to make darn sure that those registered voters vote is still counted.

IME in the long term "the best revenge is success" so I'd prefer to change the rules to our specs, play by them, prove our way really works much better and make America the wonderful positive example that I believe in my heart it can be with Liberal and Moderate Dems in charge. B-)

6. I was monitoring the SoS results site and it was weird. Dem results
were coming in regularly and the Pug results were much slower. If the precincts are reporting, wouldn't both be reported at the same time? or at least within a minute or 2 of each other? Sometimes the results were 10-15 minutes apart. My paranoid take was that the Blackwell team was manipulating the Pug result. Anyone else notice that?

7. I showed up at the polling place at 6:30am (in Cleveland).. and voting
did not begin until approx 6:50am. At this particular polling place, the issue seemed to be the polling workers themselves- the youngest of whom seemed to be in her 60s.. and some of the others looked like they had to be wheeled in there. I am NOT knocking the elderly or poll workers- but nobody seemed to know how to get the machines to work, in spite of the 'training' they are said to have received. One of them called their 'hotline' to get technical assistance.. (presumably Diebold).. and they got a recording that stated "tech support is available from 8am to 5pm..please call back." Some of the machines were eventually up and running, but I'm not convinced my vote went anywhere.

Unsettling? You bet.

Poll Rage? Man Breaks Machines At Polling Location
Man Faces Several Charges

POSTED: 11:56 am EDT May 2, 2006

CLEVELAND -- A 61-year-old man was arrested after an alleged poll rage incident, NewsChannel5 reported.

Officials said the man was arrested after breaking a voting machine. He faces disorderly conduct, obstructing official business and resisting arrest charges.

It took several people to restrain the man who was trying to vote at a 4330 Jennings Road.

It's unclear what caused the man to become upset.

8. UGH...........
Edited on Wed May-03-06 07:31 AM by OhioChick
Spent over an hour today at the precinct "trying" to vote. They couldn't find my name. Been voting for 15+ years, haven't changed my name or residence. I'm pissed off to say the least. I was given a card with phone #'s to call between late-May and June to "see" if my vote even counted.

I very much enjoyed talking to the elderly "exit poll" lady about my experience today. Told her of my "Provisional" experience and she said that quite a few people had complained of this very thing over the course of the day.......Imagine that? Came home and called the Board of Elections and the person I spoke with was in awe that this "somehow" happened after going through my voting records. Supposed to call me back with an answer...........as the whole staff there was quite pissed, as well. They wondered how the *#@& something like this could happen.

WTF do you have to do to get your vote "counted" these days?

on edit: Posted this yesterday in OH forum....

Is your ballot uniquely identifiable? If so, isn't that illegal?

18. Who the hell knows...........
My "card" got put in it's "special" little envelope. I'm supposed to call some 1-800 number between late May & June to "hear" if it was counted. Have to get back on the phone with the Board of Elections today and get this mess straightened out NOW. What a joke.

20. Oh, wow. Don't envy you at bit
and hope you do get it all straightened out. Also, that every single voter who had an issue gets it taken care of.

Yesterday, I heard on the radio (or at least thought it's what I'd heard) that Blackwell's 100,000 voter purge was actually three times that many. Maybe his shenanigans managed to bundle you up.

19. You better believe voting irregularities to occur in November elections
I believe the repugs will simply use tactics/Diebold to secure the November elections, Bush literally stole the 04 election, they know they can do it, why does anyone suppose it won't happen again especially when voter fraud is a must to keep the house and senate republican.

Fool me once shame on me, - fool me twice, then I deserve it!!!

Plus the Reform Ohio Now slate of referenda was favored in the polls by as much as 2 to 1, depending on the question. And of course they all failed. Must be those faulty exit polls... NOT!

24. I heard of the incidents you list but...
I personally had no problems here in Dublin and saw nothing odd. My voting site is almost right outside my window and I watched in the morning as well as when I returned home from work and people seemed to be able to get in, vote and get out fairly quickly. Lines never really built up too much, around 5:30pm it looked busiest and there were maybe 5-10 people in line around then.

26. Isn't Dublin a higher rent neighborhood?
I am not from Ohio, but have a relative who lives in Dublin. It was my understanding that the well-to-do live there - those that profit from ** tax cuts.
Is that true and could that have anything to do with smooth sailing at the polls?
Just askin'.

30. Yes, that is true
It is a wealthy area. I personally prefer to go with facts and will not speculate about whether or not that had anything to do with what I saw. I can say that many of the people around my neighborhood appear to be Democrats, I still see a large number of Kerry bumper stickers on their cars (and almost no W stickers any more). That only speaks to my immediate area though, being a wealthy town, I would expect there to be a good number of republicans.
