1. A speech on Bird Flu?
That's so pre 05/01.

Yep, Bush hasn't been out for a couple of days. They must be freaking out.

7. It's not the bird flu that worries me
It's the * administration plans for when we get the bird flu. I just have this feeling that if things get too bad for the Shrub gang, three people in New Jersey will get sick and then they'll declare a national emergency requiring martial law and cancelled elections.

15. He has basically already said that some time ago. Using soldiers to force
a quarantine of certain sections of the country. Didn't mention the elections - of course. But I would just assume that the "quarantines" would be the states that the incumbent Republican candidate is in trouble.

12. Riiiigggghhhhhtttttt! Try that in NYC, especially in Times Square...
It will be just like the atmosphere following 9/11 when that asshole Giuliani actually INVITED tourists to NY and encouraged them to come and SPEND MONEY.

If Bird Flu actually becomes a so-called pandemic, there will be policians, esp. here in NY, ecouraging tourists to come and visit theatres and restaurants and clothing shops where they will be shoulder-to-shoulder.

19. This is an example of them almost getting it right.
Health authorities back in 1918 urged people to stay away from large crowds. Despite this, organizers went ahead with a huge War Bond Rally in Philadelphia, resulting in a rise in flu cases and deaths in the weeks that followed. There are some decent public health measures that could be taken, but vague generalities combined with warnings to stock up on food and water plus hints of quarantines and martial law only cause panic without addressing the problem.

6. Perhaps Rove will be indicted today?
It's true, they don't normally parade Bush out for nothing. There has to be a reason. Lower poll numbers? Who knows, but I agree, something's up.

If the Dems have a press conference scheduled for the same time, they need to change it - now. It needs to be right AFTER Bush is done, so they can also comment on his speech.

21. Although you may have been speaking "tongue-in-cheek" I really agree
with you.

I have this theory that BushCo and the Corporations would like to recycle the earth's population, sending native Americans to live and work in today's third world countries and bringing residents of those third world countries to America to work for slave wages.

Just look how Halliburton is employing thousands of Americans to work as "contractors" in Iraq at salaries 5-6 times as great as the military for doing the same work.

Why else would they be building such an enormous "embassy" in Iraq?

20. I have a theory about the sudden rash of appearances by Bush
What if an insider realizes that Bush is insane and is hoping that sooner or later he does something in public that can be covered up or explained away? What would have happened if he had blown his top at the White House Correspondents dinner? Maybe we'll get lucky today and he'll start talking about who stole the strawberries.*

*Caine mutiny reference for you younger folk.
