Bong Hits for Jesus and Ken Starr
In Juneau Alaska several years ago a high school student was watching the Olympic torch run with a banner that read "Bong Hits for Jesus" He was not on school property or had anything at all to do with the school at the time but the school expelled him for it. He took it to court and lost and he appealed and won. The school appealed and now it is headed for the US Supreme Court with Ken Starr from Clinton fame as the attorney for the school. Interesting development anyway....

5. Actually the news says he is doing just that.
Republicans make a lot of money off illegal drugs so they must fight to keep them illegal but this case is not about drugs at all but about Free Speech... Republicans aren't all that fond of that either...

4. Interesting quote
Frederick’s case is unique, he said, because the phrase on his sign was illogical and therefore cannot be interpreted as offensive.

Courts have ruled that school officials can legally restrict speech found materially disruptive to the educational process when it occurs at school.

Brandeis also said the banner was not inappropriate because it merely mentioned drugs. Campus speech about drugs that does not advocate drug use cannot be censored, he said, and Frederick’s sign in no way encouraged illegal activity.

"The school can’t say, ‘Because of the drug policy you can’t talk about drugs in school,’" he said. " a pretty weak argument."

The principal, Deborah Morse, could not be reached for comment.

Frederick, who has since graduated from high school, went to college for two years before joining the Marines this summer. He is waiting to be sent to basic training.

"He is a patriot," Mertz said. "And he believes in the country and the Constitution."

6. A pre-trial interview with the justices...
"Well gosh, he mentioned Jesus on the banner, so I don't see what the problem is at all? More power to him", said Chief Justice John Roberts.

"Free speech is a sacred right in this country, and unless you're interupting or recording one of my speeches, I don't see anything wrong with it either", said Justice Antonin Scalia.

"You know what would have been really cool? If he'd had a picture of a porn star on the banner, that would have really rocked", said Justice Clarence Thomas after taking a big chug from a can of coke.

-snip-

Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, who was passed out on the bench couldn't be awoken for comment. "Sshh, don't wake her" said Justice Breyer. She partied a little too hard last night. She gets the best weed out of all of these guys you know. That stuff she smoked with us last night was fucking good shit", he whispered in this reporter's ear.

7. Oh, fer cryin' out loud!
Don't people have anything better to do?
I mean, really! :banghead:
The whole thing is a farce from the gitgo! Yeah, I know, free speech, but some people have such STUPID reactions to things you'd think they'd relegated them to the knee-jerk category on purpose.

Almost makes you want to go up behind them and just say something like "Bong hit!" or "Pagan!" or something similar just to piss them off and watch them go ballistic and start foaming at the mouth...
