Venezuela Dictator Vows To Bring Down U.S. Government
The Venezuela government is the sole owner of the Citgo gasoline company
Venezuela Dictator Hugo Chavez has vowed to bring down the U.S. government. Chavez, president of Venezuela, told a TV audience: "Enough of imperialist aggression; we must tell the world: down with the U.S. empire. We have to bury imperialism this century."
The guest on his television program, beamed across Venezuela, was Cindy Sheehan, the antiwar activist. Chavez recently had as his guest Harry Belafonte, who called President Bush "the greatest terrorist in the world."
Chavez is pushing a socialist revolution and has a close alliance with Cuban dictator Fidel Castro.
Regardless of your feelings about the war in Iraq, the issue here is that we have a socialist dictator vowing to bring down the government of the U.S. And he is using our money to achieve his goal!
The Venezuela government, run by dictator Chavez, sole owner of Citgo gas co. Sales of products at Citgo stations send money back to Chavez to help him in his vow to bring down our government.
Take Action
Please decide that you will not be shopping at a Citgo station. Why should U.S. citizens who love freedom be financing a dictator who has vowed to take down our government? ___________________________________________________________________________________
My response:
First, Chavez is the duly elected president of Venezuela. Agree or disagree with his politics or opinions, the man was chosen by the citizens of his country in a national election that was far less controversial and disputed than the U.S. election of 2000. Or do we only tell people to "get over it" when Republicans win? Refresh me on what the rules are. Secondly, given my options, I'd rather support a "dictator" in South America who is using oil revenue to improve the lives of his people. The other choice has me buying oil from totalitarian Middle Eastern dictatorships that routinely funnel millions to known terrorist organizations. I'm being asked to choose between a blowhard who vocally objects to U.S. government policies, or billionaire Arab sheiks who want to kill Americans. It's one of the easiest decisions I make. And besides, Citgo employs about 4,000 U.S. workers and supplies 14,000 independent retailers in the U.S. So a boycott will probably hurt Americans more than it will hurt Chavez, because Citgo will just sell their oil to someone else. In spite of his rhetoric, it was Chavez who offered fuel, two mobile hospital units, 2000 soldiers, 120 paramedics, 50 tons of food, ten water purification units, 18 large diesel generators and 20 tons of bottled water to help with the recovery after Hurricane Katrina. President Bush rejected that offer, by the way. Good thing, seeing as how FEMA had the situation totally under control. Heck of a job. In addition, Citgo has pioneered a need-based program that provides poor Americans in the Northeast with discounted or free heating oil in the winter. For someone who hates America so much, Chavez sure has a funny way of showing it. And xxxxxxxx, out of curiousity...I'm wondering how your feel about Pat Robertson calling for Chavez's assassination. I was hoping you could point me to the Bible passage where Jesus advocated murdering people, because I'm having trouble finding it.
