Winning over Republicans. It can be done I found out an hour ago.
I was out stumping for my Congressional candidate a couple of hours ago and although I was really only attempting to preach to the choir or other Democrats, I found many Republicans willing to look at my candidate for office. Why?

$3+ A GALLON GAS!!!!

And one old woman, who referred to herself as a strong Republican all her life stated that she was ninety-five and couldn't believe how badly things are going with her party. She's voting for Democrats this time she said.

We can take back Congress. Just remember $3+ a gallon gas!

2. Exactly.
We must remind voters which party has controlled the government while gas has gotten ridiculously expensice.

3. Here's another one to remember
In the House of Representatives, the Republican party caved to big business lobbyists who didn't want delays in their shipments, and defeated a bill that would have required inspection of all cargo containers BEFORE they were loaded on ships for the US.

At first they were for it, but their Big Business money-raisers leaned on them and they folded!

Look up your particular Congressman's vote to make sure, but it was the Republicans who defeated it.

This is a simple and easy-to-understand vote that does not involve Constitutional Law or an argument about the Federalist Papers or Presidential powers.

As Rachel Maddow says, "Just remember this one vote." That's all you need, and we should nail every one of them with it.

They simply cannot get away with calling themselves the Strong-on-Security party with a record like this one.

15. Completely off the subject, where did you find that Medusa image...
you use on your sig? I saw a photograph of it maybe a decade ago and remarked at the time how eerily it resembled an old girlfriend of mine -- someone from the '60s -- a good representation of the way she looked across the pillows at still-high noon after a full night of extreme...well, '60s-ness. (Sans snakes and lobsters of course.) But I don't remember the source of the photograph or the origin of the image. Metalwork, it looks like. A silver vase? Roman perhaps? Grecian? The East Indian subcontinent? (If the latter, I believe that would change our lady's name to Kali.) Anyway please provide the particulars.

16. H.R. Giger
google the last name, airbrush artist/designer from the 60's, created the Alien from "Alien, Aliens and Alien3" among other things. I just like the style. Nothing ancient about it.

17. Thank you. (Actually the resemblance I mentioned might not be...
coincidental. The girlfriend in question spent considerable time in Europe and as I recall modeled for several artists there c. 1964-1966.) Thanks again; surprised I didn't make the Giger connection myself because I know his other work. Must be getting old. :)

6. I ran into someone who previously was a huge bush supporter.
He was having sewer lines connected to his house and had priced the plastic pipe six months ago. He purchased the same pipe two weeks ago and paid twice what was quote originally.

I won't repeat exactly what he said, but I nearly soiled myself.

This guy is pissed and has voted repub all his life too. I think the tide may be turning.

7. Pathetic
These idiots let Smirky burn down the economy, kill hundreds of thousands, and gut our civil rights. But god forbid gas should cost over $1.75.

8. you can just prove the Link between Gas and Repubs
http://opensecrets.org/industries/indus.asp?Ind=E01

75% donation to republicans since 1990

with 84 percent so far this year alone

2004

2002 both with 80 percent donation rates to the republican party.

I don't want to hear about Supply and Demand, I want to know why these criminals are padding other criminals campaigns and no one is pointing it out

14. Making the case for simple checks and balances seems to have
some impact too... Don't have to "like" democrats to appreciate the inherent wisdom of 2 party system and checks and balances.

Hell, I don't particularly "like" half of em myself but appreciate the value of an opposition party and branches of govt working in balance as they were intended to-- what else do we have, really, besides the inherent wisdom of our founding fathers.

18. The people are just ignorant, not stupid (imo). Propaganda delays the
publics perception of the totality of an administrations policies.
And with the corporate media's stubborn support for the Bush Crime Family's interests, I'm surprised that the U.S. hasn't built detention camps for the Muslims and the liberals...OH wait, Gitmo and the U.S. prison system is full of pot smokers, crack sellers and seditious professors. never mind.
