Release Of Chicago Police Torture Report Postponed
http://www.wbbm780.com/pages/31193.php

CHICAGO (CBS 2) -- The release of a long-awaited report involving the Chicago Police Department and torture allegations has been postponed.

As CBS 2’s Kristyn Hartman reports, numerous former death row inmates claim former police Cmdr. Jon Burge, of the former Pullman and Burnside detective areas, tortured them into making confessions.

Sources said last Thursday that special prosecutors were seeking the release of the report. Criminal Court Chief Judge Paul P. Biebel Jr. in April 2002 appointed former Illinois Appellate Court Justice Edward J. Egan and retired prosecutor Robert Boyle to investigate allegations of systematic abuses under Burge in the 1970s and 1980s.

Plans had been afoot to release the report on Tuesday, but at a court hearing, the matter was postponed until May 12.

The torture claims included the use of Russian roulette, electric shock, beatings and attempted suffocation with typewriter covers.
