The more bedwetter news typers whine about Colbert, the funnier he is! |

Richard Bedsoaker Cohen of the Washington Post, known Bush bootlicker is the latest. The more of these strenuous defenses of Colbert's not-funnyness I read the funnier he gets. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/05/03/AR2006050302202.html

And they need to stop protecting Bush. If you are the President, you are going to be criticized. Even though the Republicans made life hell for Clinton, I didn't see him getting pre-screened audiences for his appearances. And the people around him didn't seem so overly protective. If Bush cannot take Colbert's satire, then maybe he isn't mature enough to be President.

Okay, you're right. It's not "maybe" with Bush. He *is* too immature.

10. Insightful observation. |
|
The media whores are unfamiliar with a spontaneous criticism of their beloved W. They are used to reporting on photo ops and Potemkin villages, as if they were real or significant. Remember -- Bush NEVER appears in front of a non-pre-screened audience -- even when its the British Parliament (of our closest ally, Britain). In addition, his critics get corralled into "Free Speech Zones" -- far away from the venue in which the Monkey King appears. Opposition to this administration -- and the war -- are ignored or marginalized. When WE march, -- even in the tens or hundreds of thousands or beyond -- we never get air time ( besides Cspan) even though the media gives a lot of face time to smaller protests, like the Terri Schaivo case and the Ten Commandments case.
Colbert levelled the playing field. The kid who pointed out the obvious fact that the Emperor wears no clothes.

2. Cohen laments the lack of domestic torture... |

"But in this country, anyone can insult the president of the United States. Colbert just did it, and he will not suffer any consequence at all." Dang. won't they even pull even one teeny itsy bitsy finger nail out? Freedom of speech in this country is apparently when a guy like Cohen gets to write his articles and everyone else has to shut up and listen. And one more thing. I agree wtih the poster to wit:

that reminds him often of his greatness"?!?!?!?
You have to freaking be kidding! I think he's mixed up his subjects. That's as good of a description of little lord pissypants as I can think of.
Talk about projection.

I am loving this promotional marketing campaign by the RW whiners...
The more they whine, the more folks will check it out to satisfy their curiosity.
Sometimes I like how Republicans whine like little babies...

>>But on his own show he appeals to a self-selected audience that reminds him often of his greatness.<< Uh, jealous, Richard? Sorry, dear, but his audience adores him because he is an extraordinarily talented comic.(I give him high marks; the boy might be a 21st century Chaplin -- he's that good, in my opinion.) Additionally -- he spares no fool, liberal or conservative -- Jon Stewart is also egalitarian in his satire. A lot of his guests -- conservative and liberal -- love the way he bounces them around; to to remain on your feet during a Colbert "interview" is quite a feat! He can be sharp and mocking but overall he is polite when it is appropriate, and he never descends into meanness or vulgarity.
>>In Washington he was playing to a different crowd, and he failed dismally in the funny person's most solemn obligation: to use absurdity or contrast or hyperbole to elucidate -- to make people see things a little bit differently. He had a chance to tell the president and much of important (and self-important) Washington things it would have been good for them to hear.<< He used his wit to TRY to awaken the moribund press, to ask them why they have let this administration slide, when the Bush administration is so controversial and unpopular. I would argue that he did try to make this dismal crowd see things differently. Some of the audience were It Getters. But alot of them gaped at Colbert like a bunch of ignorant peasants or frightened schoolgirls -- which surprises me, because you would think they would have at least a veneer of urbanity. Ooops.
The only thing that would appease these people is if Colbert offered to fellate Bush -- if only metaphorically.
Clearly, they were uncomfortable with criticism of their beloved W. Are they all so corrupt and cynical and out of touch with American opinion that they are shocked by Colbert?
An American treasure passed under their noses -- and they treated him like a skunk at a garden party. The art of Stephen Colbert will outlive the journalism of Richard Cohen and most of the journalistic failures present at this event.

9. Before I read the Cohen piece, |
|
I have to confess to having loathed the asshole for years - going back almost thirty years. He's always been a suckass weenie, but his stance on Iraq (he was pro-Fuckface) finally sealed his fate for me.
You're so right about Colbert - his show tonight was genius, and he looks like he's having the time of his life. The guy's star is soaring, and that's wonderful.
I might wait until tomorrow's Post to read Assface Cohen, but thanks a lot.
Weenie. Sexual harasser, too. That's why he got sent from DC to NY. Prick. I hate Richard Cohen.
