Americans Were Told Reagan Wasn't Impeachable Cuz He Was "Too Likeable" |
|
What's George's excuse?
All those folks pardoned by Poppy Bush for Iran Contra that now serve in Sonny Bush's administration-- how many are there? (ask Randi)
When history repeats itself, do we notice?

2. Yes. Reagan's likeability was a halo and somehow made him immune |

to the criticism that most public figures receive. He had saint-like status because he seemed like such a practical ol' cuss on one hand and a deeply sympathetic sage on the other.
When in fact, he was a clueless asshole most of the time and a bloodthirsty tyrant the rest of the time.
My guess is the men and women and children of El Salvador whose family members and neighbors and friends were stolen in the night and disappeared by U.S.-backed deathsquads during Reagan's administration, probably found the American president a good deal less likeable than the lazy-minded Americans who supported him for 8 years, some of whom are no doubt part of Bush's core 33% now. Or, as you say, in his administration outright.
I always objected to Reagan politically, but that charm of likeability puts me over the boiling point with him, and the people from that era now in Dubya's pack of liars and thieves is further proof of a dark legacy.

which pleased me, although it was far too late.
That was about the sleaziest exercise in Presidential pardons ever.
And, like everything Fuckface, it was simply overlooked.

I always wonder why the Right hates the ACLU. The ACLU defended both Ollie North and Rushbo.

10. I read that Tip O'Neal .. |
|
turned down the idea of impeachment... he didn't want to put the country thru the wringer. Must have seemed like a good idea at the time.
Little did Tip ever imagine the depths to which this country has sunk.

he didn't want to put the country thru the wringer
All due respect to Tip O'Neill, I am so sick of that excuse. Not "putting the country through the wringer" after discovering US corporate backing of Hitler during WWII, after Nixon, after Iran/Contra, after whatever transgressions have been perpetrated, just opens the door for more.
Hey, guys, this is so cool! We'll never get nailed for our crimes, because if they're heinous enough our wrongdoings will be swept under the rug all in the name of not "putting the country thru the wringer" - go for it! We can either 'retire' on our riches, continue to rake it in with sweet TV, publishing and public speaking deals for life, or if it's not the money but the POWER we crave, we can slink back into government years down the line and continue to pull the same crap over and over again with a free pass!
...unless there's a blow job involved.
*sigh*
Meanwhile, the country goes through the wringer regardless. If you want to get better, you take your medicine.

14. Biggest mistake Tip made.... |
|
... but in his defense, who could have imagined how the pass Reagan got on Iran/Contra would lead to the amazing/disgusting situation we have now.
I certainly don't see any Dem with even half the balls of Tip or any of the old-line Dem pols.

I had tee shirt with his picture on it. He had his finger in his nose. The caption was "Who picked this man?"
I have no idea why bush hasn't been impeached. The only possible thing I can think of is that he hasn't had a blow job by an intern. I KNOW it's a bumber sticker, but seriously........
What's not to impeach?
