I know current hybrid technology isn't perfect...but its a start and I'm willing to pony up the $$ to be involved, to help hybrids reach some sort of critical mass.

the difference in cost. For the same reason you give.

3. I tried getting a hybrid a few months ago |
The Prius had a year waitlist and the Insight had a 3 month or so waitlist. I eventually gave up and got a bike, but I was happy to see the demand for them outpacing the supply.

falling off on hybrids and I didn't think that was true.

5. I Can See Demand For The Prius Waning, As Someone Pointed Out |
yesterday.
The HSD Camry is coming out, which could be diluting some of the market. Also, the Prius has been around a few years, when sales traditionally drop off.
OTOH, the long waiting lists seem to contradict the above, so who knows.
No matter, the HSD in small to mid-sized cars seems here to stay.

Unfortunately, hybrid sales may have increased but they still only make up 3400 of the 230,000 cars sold... still not enough to make a solid impact, but it's getting there. As for types of hybrids, from what I understand, toyota is road testing 2008 model hybrids right now and they are getting 94 mph... that's just what I've heard.
