Poll question: Was there really a war on Christmas?
Bill O'Reilly: "According to that analysis on NBC News, the war on Christmas is a, quote, 'laughable lie,' unquote. Well, I guess they missed the Gallup poll that said 69 percent of Americans opposed dropping the greeting 'Merry Christmas' and nearly half the country thinks Christmas is under siege."

Whether people oppose "dropping the greeting" is irrelevant. Whether people "think" there was a war is also irrelevant.

This is a better question, and I wish this would be asked of a representative sample:

This past Christmas season, were you at any time prevented from or penalized for using the holiday greeting of your choice?

That may explain why Bill's so cranky.

5. Olielly and gibson taking a 10 month break to prepare
for the major battles expected next year. Rumors of potential skirmishes include liberals roasting and eating a turkey shaped like the baby jesus on thanksgiving.
The right will counter with a night where all networks will feature Pat Robertson and Jerry Falwell in a 3 hour spectacular where they will call on theur deity 'to strike the unbelievers dead in their tracks to prove God loves the world'.
Christmas sales plummet as pissed off Americans say 'fuck it I can't pay for my heat, anyway'. George Bush says we must have a national debate where 'all americans of any faith can come together and speak of the wonders of jesus and his followers. To not do so would be treasonous'.
Borders to Canada are jammed with people fleeing the US.

6. It's funny how the fundies realize that overtuning RoeVWade
isn't going to happen so they start crying about Christmas. I say to them listen here 'If someone saying Happy Holidays hurts your religious beliefs, they aren't on stable ground to begin with'

These people are rediculous and I'm a Christian myself. Since when did the republicans become so sensetive and need to be held?

7. Yes there definately was a war on Christmas.
Edited on Wed Jan-11-06 03:38 PM by The White Tree
But I won't vote Yes in the poll because the Yes vote is not in context with my meaning.

The war on Christmas was waged by people like O'Reilly and Gibson. They are the ones who are truly against the spirit of Christmas.

To paraphrase Dickens, if they had their way, figuratively, every person who doesn't go around with Merry Christmas on his lips would be buried with a stake of holly in their heart.

In trying to put the Christ back in Christmas, they took the Peace on Earth and and Good Will Toward Men, right out of it. Doing that is a far worse attack on Christmas then wishing someone Happy Holidays.

Edited for spelling.

8. What war
What war ever gets started that isn't started by the radical right in the first place? Jeez they are the most paranoid sorry group of people in the history of humankind. Always thinking someone is starting a war on them or their beliefs. They start the wars on themselves and blame the rest of us for it. Paranoid delusional people.

10. of course not, and O'Reilly misrepresented the Gallup Poll
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=364&topic_id=109691&mesg_id=110100

Also, O'Reilly conveniently ignores the fact that 48 percent of the respondents to a FoxNews poll, specifically disagreed with the statement that there is a War on Christmas in the US. By a 49-45 percent margin, the respondents to that same FoxNews poll were NOT offended by stores that instruct employees not to say 'Merry Christmas' and make it a policy to specifically not use the words 'Merry Christmas' in advertising and promotions?"

11. Who voted yes? And can we hear your stories?

I would certainly be interested in hearing how you were prevented from or penalized for using the holiday greeting of your choice.

12. In a country where the population is going more multi-cultural, you
adjust norms. Or you don't adjust anything and wait for srife, exclusion and hatred to fester.
