is Mexico a sovereign nation?
US asks Mexico to reconsider 'stupid' drug law
Mexico is to reconsider a drug law that would have permitted the possession of small quantities of hard drugs, after the US warned the legislation could promote drug tourism to the country's resorts.
http://www.guardian.co.uk/usa/story/0,,1767484,00.html

The wider object of the law was empowering local police to help federal police enforce Mexico's drug laws and to have them concentrate on large-scale traffickers and dealers without clogging up the courts with addicts and small-time drug abusers.

But U.S. officials and others said it gave the appearance that Mexico was condoning drug use. Karen Tandy, chief of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, met with Mexican officials to express concerns that it could increase trafficking and lure Americans over the border for "drug tourism."

4. On NBC news last night
People were freaking that Americans would cross the border to consume drugs. I thought to myself I don't have to cross any border to consume drugs if I want to, a couple of phone calls will arrange for all the drugs I want in any variety.
It's another chicken little sky is falling hgead in the sand reaction.
