New '08 GOP poll: McCain strong in NH but not Iowa
McCain seems to be the odds on favorite in NH at this early date to win the NH primary. Leading his nearest opponent Newt Gingrich 44-7 percent in the state, but still 46% are undecided. In Iowa, however, which is a caucus state, McCain's edge is much smaller 26-10 over my favorite for the nomination, Bill ("Give me some cats") Frist.

If Rudy is added to the mix, McCain still comes out of NH with a solid 41-13 lead, but in Iowa his lead is much narrower--23-16 over Rudy.

I think that McCain will have problems in caucus states because the party activists control those states and they don't care for McCain despite his boot licking of late.

1. What a macabre line-up of yahoos. McCain. Gingrich. Giuliani. Frist.
I'm a little surprised Hagel isn't polling a little better in Iowa.

3. I am also surprised about Hagel - frankly, he is the Repub
I fear the most. He truly has cross-party (moderate) appeal.

6. I don't think Hagel will run
I think he will think that his and McCain's votes are from the same pool. But I agree if he were nominated he would be very formidable.

McCain to speak at Liberty Graduation

U.S. Sen. John McCain - a likely 2008 presidential candidate who once labeled the Rev. Jerry Falwell an “agent of intolerance” - will be Liberty University’s graduation speaker on May 13.

Oh, I guess "lickboot" is a good description after all.

4. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
Why do these two sparsely-populated-with-white-people states get to exercise so much power over the Presidential election? I am so sick of hearing how the 12 people in Bumfuck Notch, NH voted at 12:01 am on primary day.

5. McCain came to Iowa a short time ago and stated to a fundie
Edited on Thu May-04-06 12:46 PM by Alexodin
audience that he was pro choice and anti-ethanol.

While that may be the case those two issues are probably enough to loose him the Iowa fundies. It was really bone headed of him to say it. He should have said something anti-equal rights for GLBT people if he wanted the fundie vote. Something really hateful might have won him a few votes but instead he tells Iowa farmers that subsidies for ethanol are a really bad idea.

Yep Iowans love to hear shit like that. Limbaugh already smeared him with the right in Iowa they hated him for McCain/Feingold, so they hated him anyway and the idea they shouldn't torture innocent people also angered the right.

McCain is just not up to the task of whipping the brown shirts into a frenzy of ignorance bigotry and homicidal rage.
