Katherine Harris' campaign looking like the "Caine Mutiny"

Harris insisted the request be submitted even though it was late and hard to understand, according to a report in the Orlando Sentinel's Thursday editions. The newspaper cites Harris' former chief political strategist Ed Rollins.

"She told them she wanted it done," Rollins told the paper. "And she wanted it done now."

On Monday, the congressional watchdog group Common Cause asked the Justice Department to investigate whether Harris attempted to obtain the appropriation in return for financial support from the defense contractor, Mitchell Wade.

In filing the complaint, Common Cause cited information provided by Wade as part of a plea agreement in the bribery case of convicted former Republican Rep. Randy "Duke" Cunningham of California.


So evidently, not only does she do a good Cruella impression, she can also do a pretty good Bogie.

had the story "GOP Urges Bense To Take On Harris". Bense is 54, speaker of the Florida House and a self-made multi millionaire. According to the article, Gov. Bush was quoted saying that Bense would make "a great United States senator....I have doubts about whether she (Harris) can win."

28. A report from the fund raiser

It wasn't what I expected at all. I thought it would be a sort of a freeper pep rally. Instead, it was a very subdued event at a somewhat shabby Holiday Inn in Ohio. In fact, the couple of hundred people in attendance seemed to be mostly comatose. It became evident as the evening wore on that they were mostly employees of the guy who sponsored the fund raiser and that most of them didn't know or care who the candidate was.

Anyway, the woman of the evening was tiny, attired in yellow and black in a sort of bumblebee theme, and had a permanent frozen smile. She gave an after-dinner speech in a breathless enthusiastic style reminiscent of a beauty contestant. Most of the speech seemed to be a series of non sequiturs and talking points--in her world, the economy is booming and we're winning in Iraq, rah rah, striving for world peace, defeat the evil libruls.

Interesting points from her speech:

--After we bring freedom and democracy to Iraq, they won't want to be suicide bombers anymore because they'll have jobs.

--110,000 Mexicans come into the U.S. every (didn't catch the interval). What if they were all terrorists who want to bomb us?

--Someone important in Israel told her that Iran could have nukes in a matter of weeks and then they could smuggle radioactive material into this country in bales of marijuana (I was nodding off at this point, but I'd swear she said it).

--Someday she'd like to go on bus tour to promote a 23% flat tax.

Dumb as a box of rocks, the woman is.
