Detroit makes a new gas guzzler
This new car should make the oily Saudi Terrorists happy. They have a place where you can leave a comment, and the right-wingers love this car. http://www.leftlanenews.com/2006/01/07/detroit-2006-dodge-challenger-concept-unveiled/

4. Yeah, it's just a car
That will use up an obscene amount of an ever more scarce resource, pump out an increased amount of pollution, and while most people continue to be able to afford gas, the high price is really starting to put a drag on the economy. Besides, get back to me next summer when gas hits $4-5/gallon and tell me how affordable gas is:eyes:

No, it's not a political machine, it is more of the same old shit from Detroit, gas guzzling, pollution spewing, resource devouring POS that Detroit has staked its future on. Trouble is, people aren't buying those anymore, and since Detroit refuses to evolve away from these dinosaurs, they'll go under and take a good chunk of our economy with it.

24. Exactly!!
This has such far-reaching effects and just digs the hole deeper that the US is already drowning in. If they keep making these cars we'll just keep having these problems...and these wars.

7. Looks great...and you don't have to get the "hemi"
obviously these will come out with v6's as well. Will have the same engine lineup as the current dodge charger...calm down...oh yeah, by the way, the 6.1 hemi is estimated at the same mpg as I get with my 99' S-10 with a 4.3V6

The 3.5-liter high-output V6 engine, standard on Charger SE and SXT models, delivers the perfect balance of performance and economy. This compact powerhouse kicks out 250 horsepower and 250 lb-ft of torque thanks to a host of performance features, including a precision aluminum block with cast-in iron liners, cross-bolted main bearing caps, and cast aluminum heads.

Power: 250 horsepower at 6,400 rpm
Torque: 250 lb-ft at 3,800 rpm
Fuel economy: 19 mpg city / 27 mpg highway*

The famed 5.7-liter HEMI V8 engine with Multiple Displacement System (MDS) on Charger R/T and Daytona R/T delivers the goods, featuring a deep-skirt cast-iron block with cross-bolted main bearing caps and aluminum alloy heads with legendary hemispherical combustion chambers.

Power: 340 horsepower at 5,000 rpm (350 horsepower on Daytona R/T)
Torque: 390 lb-ft at 4,000 rpm
Fuel economy: 17 mpg city / 25 mpg highway*

Behold our most powerful engine ever: the big-bore SRT-engineered 6.1-liter HEMI V8. A mix of modern technology and good old-fashioned hot rod engineering enables this beast to churn out a fearsome 425 horsepower and 420 lb-ft of torque. That's more power per liter than the legendary 426 Street HEMI that reigned supreme in the 1960s and 1970s.

Power: 425 horsepower at 6,000 rpm
Torque: 420 lb-ft at 4,800 rpm
Fuel economy: 14 mpg city / 20 mpg highway*

10. "right-wingers love this car"
Edited on Wed Jan-11-06 04:19 PM by Rob H.
What makes you think that everyone who loves this car is a right-winger? I read through some of the responses at the link you posted and that isn't the impression I got at all (unless they're typing some sort of secret code that reveals their political affiliations that you're picking up on and I'm not).

For what it's worth, I love this concept, too. My dad had a 1970 Challenger R/T that he ordered after seeing the brochure at his local Dodge dealership in late 1969--he hadn't even seen one in the flesh or test-driven one! He loved that car, and this concept makes me think of all the fond memories he has of having owned it.

12. I have to admit...
this thing is pretty damn sweet. I know we all need to save gas and such, but ya have to admit that those muscle cars sure had style and attitude, something that most cars today don't have, especially the little hybrid type things. Now if we could just combine the best of both worlds....

based on the 1969 Z-28 Camaro. Way, way, way back in time, my first boyfriend owned 1969 Z28. We had some good times in that car. :)

Edited on Wed Jan-11-06 05:23 PM by finecraft
I thought it would have a V-6, but it will come standard with a 400-horsepower aluminum small-bock
V-8 and six-speed manual transmission.

They plan on using "Active Fuel Management cylinder deactivation technology" (?) to get the 30 mpg or better on the highway.

Edit to add photo:

16. Do you homeworker before complaining about nothing
This engine will shut down cyclinders so it will a lot cheaper - Cadillac and several others have engines just like this and while the mileage is not the best, it is no worst than many cars.

33. A Tahoe is too big to let this make a huge improvement
A one-ton car is different--less mass for the 4-effective-cylinder engine to try to maintain speed on.

At over 4000 lbs, it has no business being a real performance car. Its a redneck "I got 500hp" machine.

But the new Charger is a blah four-door car and this Challenger was designed to respond to its criticism.

29. Hummer in a different outfit - found a nice article on this
<snip>
The Hemi has 425 hp, 420 lb-ft of torque, and a six-speed manual transmission. So geared, with its 4,100 pound weight, it can do 0-60 in 4.5 seconds (with 20 inch wheels on front and 21 inch wheels on back), and runs the quarter mile in 13 seconds flat; top speed is 174 mph (limited by wind resistance), while gas mileage is estimated at 14 city, 20 highway, very good compared with the original Challenger. Brakes are more effective than the original - stopping from 60 mph can be done in 133 feet.
<snip>

http://www.allpar.com/cars/dodge/challenger.html

Now, everyone who REALLY thinks that with this much power available, the driver of this car will be making smooth, economical accelerations with a nice, safe, steady highway speed - raise your hands (looks around expectantly)

30. This is the reason my last two cars have been foreign built
Until U.S. automakers decide that they should be more responsible than they have, I won't buy an American car. And since many Americans are irresponsible assholes, the change will probably be a long time coming (and far too late to save the U.S. auto industry). American-made vehicles are mostly shit anyway.

35. They do wonder why the can't participate on the world market.
Blame the workers for their lack of profitability and the design a car that can be marketed to the Duke boys. Now that's a viable business decision in today's global marketplace. I'm sure they'll be exporting this one :sarcasm:

Seriously. When management comes for your job, just ask them why they can't perform theirs.

just get that wweeeee weeeeeee of a 'tricked out' corolla which sounds like a toy car about to explode.

That being said this car isn't practical for where I am in life so I imagine my next car will be an accord or a camry or something similar.
