Has anyone else received Zogby's latest poll? |
|
After a few questions about teeth whitening products, our friendly neighborhood pollster is asking about sex. Considering the fact he has my e-mail address and other information about me, I'm a little weirded out about the questions this time.
I'll be interested to hear the impressions of other DU'ers that are on his lists...

5. Mine either. It was about love, relationships, and regrets. |
|
I always miss out on the good stuff.
BTW, JulieRB, I wouldn't take it too personally or worry about Zogby having your info.
On the other hand, don't let 'em know about your really juicy kinks. You never really know.

I wasn't surprised with all the Crest versus Colgate questions but all the sudden it changed to hetero versus homosexual interests!

3. I got one the other day, but it was |
|
pretty much totally a mid-term political poll. Mostly questions related to Stabenow, etc. It was a pretty short one.

4. When I got to the sex questions |
|
I stopped and emailed Zogby. The questions were way too invasive, even voyeuristic. And what does a sexual fantasy question and others have to do with "women's consumer products", the stated subject of the survey?
Troubling and surprising for an outfit like Zogby. I've written surveys for research before. The questions were way across the line.

13. I was really bothered by the |
|
"would you tell your partner that they weren't well endowed" type questions. What the hell was that?
>The questions were way too invasive, even voyeuristic.<
I totally agree. Very inappropriate, and I'm a bit confused as to why he thought this was appropriate.

6. Yes -- I got a "not qualified" after the sexual identity questions. |
|
As soon as I admitted to being a heterosexual, single female, I got the brush-off -- "not qualified for this survey." lol

7. I got it today, and I thought it was going to be the political one |
|
another DUer mentioned. Nope, toothpaste and sex. I didn't even finish it. Many of the questions were worded badly "Are you afraid to tell your partner that you don't like his mother?" Huh? I do like my husband's mother, so none of the choices, "Yes" "No" or "Not Sure" were appropriate. I signed on with Zogby to give my political opinion, not my sex life.

am I afraid to tell my lover I don't think is well enough endowed.... very odd poll. Nothing about politics, just these odd "are you afraid" questions.
I got one last week which was about politics. Usually they don't come out so close together.

12. Do you think maybe it was a phony site |
|
set up to look like it was Zogby with a fake suvey? It's possible. Sounds pretty weird. I'm signed up for the Zogby polls and didn't get anything like this.

8. Since signing up (at link posted here) to participate, my address cloned |
|
Hope the two are not connected, and would love an explanation as to how the clone thing works. But within 3 days of filling out email to participate (was curious if it was legit and how it could be at all scientific without more criteria) started getting LOTS of messages about undeliverable emails from my address.
No virus or worms. I even stayed offline a couple days as a test. Yep, emails going out under my email on the days I didn't even have the machine attached to the modem. Also got email from Olberman's Countdown site advising that their newsletters to me were going back to them as undeliverable. Most disconcerting.
Just got a message from Zogby (after several weeks) and am choosing not to respond.
Anybody else have strange things like this since giving that sight your email address? Am sorta wondering about what happens to me now that it's illegal to annoy anyone on the internet ;) Some jerk sending out spam on with my return address gonna get me sent up the river? Fun way to silence a bunch of mouthy liberals? :D

16. My most recent (01/09/06) was a mid-term election poll |
|
I've been asked some pretty odd questions before in the past, however. Once I was polled about my feelings regarding boxing, or some such silliness.

This morning I got the latest Zogby. It asked about virtually nothing save sex. I was astonished but, being a good sport, answered to the best of my ability. Strange, eh?

21. The ones who received the sex questions must fit the demographics of |
|
the marketer that paid Zogby to send the survey. The info I provide indicates I'm old and poor, so marketers don't care what I think. I only get political questions.
Marketers want to know about your sexual fantasies because they don't sell products and services anymore. They sell "lifestyles."
Zogby works for a wide range of clients. Look around his site and you'll find a list of the industries who hire his services. Not all of them are politically oriented, and neither are the questions in his surveys. If a question asks something you don't want to answer, mark it Refused. I think you should refuse whether it makes you uncomfortable or not - why should you give away free marketing research?
On a related note: if you're in a mall and someone with a clipboard asks you if you want to participate in consumer research, tell them you work in advertising and they will run away. Unless, of course, you want to make a few dollars sitting around eating cookies while people peer at you through a two-way mirror.
