"Floods, Winds Strike Mo., Okla. and Texas"
Where are the fundie types to decry the sinfulness of these red states that brought the storms down on them?

from AP via Salon.com ( http://www.salon.com/wire/ap/archive.html?wire=D8HD4C9OL.html ):

May 04,2006 | SLEEPER, Mo. -- Stormy weather brought high winds and flash flooding to parts of Missouri, Oklahoma and Texas, sweeping a crowded van off a bridge and killing one of its passengers.

Areas of Tulsa flooded early Thursday, knocking out power for about 9,000 homes and businesses, Public Service Co. of Oklahoma spokesman Stan Whiteford said. Fire officials in Broken Arrow, which got up to 5 inches of rain, reported rescuing people from at least two vehicles.

Northeastern Oklahoma was under a flash flood watch through Thursday night.

In Missouri, the van was carrying eight people Wednesday when it tried to drive across a concrete slab over a creek bed that normally has little water, said Jonathan Ayres, the Laclede County emergency management director.

Argument.

Glad you find this funny.

5. I'm sorry, but...
...where do you see humor? Don't presume to know my intent.

3. It rained* all night here in eastern OK, just now stopped. 5+ inches
plus another 5 just 3 days ago...which was the first measurable rain we got since last October. When it rains, it pours...no shit.

* lots of thunder, lightning & hail but no torpedos thankyouverymuch.

4. Knock it off please
This isn't funny to those of us who live here, in fact it shouldn't be funny to anybody. Hard hitting storms have been a serious problem throughout the Midwest this spring, and Missouri has been one of the hardest hit. There are many of your fellow Democrats that live here, so your broad brush attempt at humor, or schadenfreude, or whatever, slaps all of us. Stop it, now.

I doubt that you would be having fun at the expense of the residents of the Gulf Coast, why do you you think that death and tragedy are appropriate to make light of here?

8. Sounds like someone else is offended.
Most of our nerves are already on edge. You're going to have to bring out the dog and pony to get the context across.

There's a whole lot of completely freaked-out people in Tornado Alley this year. It's shaping up to be a record year. Most of the jokes will be saved until the dead are buried.

It's sad that one's normal sense of humor is the first thing to suffer in a crisis, but that's the way it is. Griping that nobody got the joke is an exercise in futility. Back to the green room!

9. Hey, I just think it's a bit assholish to get your digs in at the expense
Of peoples' lives. You may think that you're little work of schadenfreude is cute and all, but in many eyes it just makes you an ass, with a shitty sense of humor.

And frankly, the reason I'm presuming what you think about Katrina victims is because I haven't, nor doubt that I will, see the same sort of "humor" that you're posting about the Midwestern states used in reference to the Gulf Coast states.

Sorry, but what you consider humor, or cute, or clever echoes hollow in those of us who are having to live through this spring. Tell you what pal, why don't you come out here to the Midwest and ride through a F4 or F5 monster. You'll probably be shitting your pants before it's all done. Then we'll see how good your sense of humor is.

Fundy bash if you want, but don't use the lives of innocent people, and broad brush a whole region while you're doing so, OK.

10. Ooooooooooh, you're so right.
Chicago's not in the Midwest, and I would shit my pants, I'd be so scared. Pal.

You "doubt" that you will see any such comments about the fundies and Katrina victims? Aren't you the clever one? That would be because...um...the fundies did pipe in with their wisdom about NO's iniquity being responsible for the disaster.

And bashing the fundies with no context is no fun at all. After all, it's your friends and neighbors -- in the broad brush sense -- who make MO (and KS, if you happen to be in Johnson Cty., home of my Dem ex-gf) such red-state heaven.

The bottom line is, where in my simple question about the absence of fundie preachers does it mock people's misfortune? Answer that intelligently and accurately, or quit being exactly the kind of whiny "woe-is-me" victim that Repubs get so much mileage out of.

11. Oooooh you're so big and brave,
Living in Chicago:eyes: When did a tornado last hit there? When's the last time you had to dive into the basement? When's the last time your roof was ripped off up there in Chicago.

Sorry, but your sense of humor is falling flat on this one. I've told you this, other people have told you this, perhaps you should listen rather than trying to make matters worse, and making yourself look more the fool for doing so. There's a time and place for certain types of humor, and apparently, judging from the response you've gotten from your little dig, this ain't the time nor the place.

And asking for a little sensitivity isn't being "woe is me Republicanism" Proceeding to hit the same sick joke time and again after being asked to stop is more along those lines.

12. Actually,...
...both on this and another thread, a few people -- notably not in the affected areas -- got that the joke was on the fundies, not on those suffering the storm's effects. And I'm wondering how much you'd care if you weren't in the area affected by the storm. Nothing like that parochial interests issue to further splinter Dems.

And we have tornadoes fairly often in the greater metro area.

Last, I was referring to "woe-is-me" Dem victims, not Republicanism, and commenting on how that kind of self-victimization is what gives Repubs ammunition.

Whatever. Just make sure you stand up for every victim everywhere as strongly as you do for yourself if you're so sensitive about all the victims of the world.

You might also consider reading what I wrote, which mentions fundie preachers, not victims. Give it a chance; reading is FUNdamental.

13. They're busy
Where are the fundie types to decry the sinfulness of these red states that brought the storms down on them?

They are too busy praying for Bush's sins to be forgiven & forgotten. They don't have time to worry about why us Okies are being washed or blown away.

14. Thank you.
Another person, from the affected area no less, who understands that my comment was not meant to mock the suffering of those caught in the storms.

I tend to doubt, however, that the fundies are praying for bush's sins, because he hasn't committed any...in their delusional eyes.

Good luck to you weathering the storms.
