NBC evening news story on Colbert
Edited on Thu May-04-06 05:56 PM by highplainsdem
story headline "Blog of War"

Harry Shearer shown, saying that having the video of Colbert everywhere is "a wakeup call."

Story's mostly about the Internet buzz reaching news organizations -- "the voice of the everyman, growing louder and being heard everywhere."

Unfortunately, there was nothing of substance about what Colbert actually said, and the only video clip of Bush's reaction at the dinner showed him smiling, rather than clearly unhappy. So NBC is covering the buzz about the event, rather than the event itself.

1. I flipped over (thanks to your post). Interesting. Mostly about how
the blogosphere can now drive some coverage instead of just a few gatekeepers at the top.

2. Thanks for the heads up
I caught the end. Seems like their premise--"News used to come from gatekeepers at the top but now it bubbles up from the bottom "--is a good point.

I would like your take on the whole piece.

3. The bottom is really bubbling. I was at a work function today and
saw a lot of people I rarely see, there is a lot of serious hostility to BushCo among people who don't use the net as their primary source of news. Gave out a lot of web addresses and people took the time to write them down.

6. I was editing my OP while you were posting. My take on it is that
the story didn't give any real attention to the newsworthy event itself -- the dinner, and the MSM's silence on Colbert contrasted with the fawning praise for Bush and his "twin."

It's nice that they covered the Internet reaction, and finally noticed that "everyman" might care about how news is being covered, but they should have been more honest about WHY there was such a tremendous reaction on the Net.

12. This story shows the slow reaction of the MSM
they were all out there on Monday with the cutesy Bush duo as the lead. No mention of Colbert except on Olberman (which was weak) and Stewart (who already knew what the real story was - and didn't wait for his opinion to be validated).
Now...it's THURSDAY and the MSM is waking up to what really happened. They're going home to find their kids watching Colbert's speech online. Or having the drycleaning clerk ask them about Colbert.
And they led with the hackneyed "two Bushes" schtick.
No wonder they're losing viewership.
They don't know a story when it hits them right between the eyes.

15. It's not just kids at home watching
kids on college campuses and people at work. Ten different people emailed me the link and I saw it twice on Saturday night. One friend at the UN said it has been the major discussion among staff all week. MSM is playing catch up but I am not surprised.

I'd love Chomsky's take on the speech.

22. Richard Cohen has a stupid column
in today's Atlanta Journal Constitution - it's syndicated. Colbert was "rude". And "not funny".
Another coaster who's too insulated and puffed up with self importance to realize what's going on in this country.
He didn't find Colbert's speech funny.
Can he not understand that millions did? Funny...and more? Meanwhile, what do his columns say?
More and more...nothing. Just nothing.
Maybe the backlash is professional jealousy.

11. Roundabout way of saying it happened without saying WHAT happened
and WHY it was so significant.

Typical mediawhore move.

24. What's new? The Today Show gave a one second soundbite to
McGovern confronting Rumsfeld. It was summarized by Ann Curry that a man (not a retired CIA analyst, let alone Papa Bush's CIA liason while VP) asked Rumsfeld why he lied. Ann Curry then went on to say, Rumsfeld said he didn't lie. End of report.

NBC is owned by GE, one of the biggest profiteers when the US goes a-warring. Do you really think they want Truth to be told?

25. Here's the FUNNY show that Bush did in another WHCD
Edited on Fri May-05-06 09:35 AM by symbolman
Where is was looking for WMD under Chairs in the White House (should have looked in his deskfor all his father's receipts),and Ray McGovern during the Downing Street Minutes Hearing, Talking about that BIG JOKE, while Cindy SHeehan sat at this side, with Joe Wilson on the other side..

It's pretty poignant I think, I filmed them all at the hearing and assembled the clip, which is part of my "Rove's War" film, the complete Chronology of Plame's outing.

Look at the disgust on McGovern's face..

Anyone want to pass this along to Colbert or Olbermann feel free, thanks if you do, been busy..
