Poll question: How long until Stephen Colbert is too easy on a guest and we turn on him? |
|
Edited on Thu May-04-06 07:33 PM by IanDB1
Every once in a while, Jon Stewart isn't quite hard-hitting enough, or is too nice to a Repuke.
Or South Park is too hard on the Manatees.
Or... well... you get the idea.
How long will it be until someone on DU posts a thread saying Stephen Colbert has let us down?

1. It's a little sad to put too much on a guy who's on basic cable. |

I mean, it was great political theater, and I agree: it was a balls out performance. But it was just a comedy performance at the least, one great speech in Bush's face at best. I love Colbert and would trade him for a victory over Santorum in PA in a heartbeat.

I've always liked Colbert, but I'm not into hero-worship. People are human and if you put them on a pedestal, they get too top-heavy and come tumbling down.
Enjoy the moment, people, but don't put Mr. Colbert too high on his pedestal. I'm excited enough by what he did that I had a dream about him the other night. I won't share the content because I don't want this thread to get locked. :D Still, I will remember the dude is human.
For the record, I still watch Jon Stewart and South Park. People were ripping on Keith Olbermann for not supporting Colbert. I've never watched Mr. Olbermann regularly, but thought that turning on him over so small a thing was a little much. Mr. Olbermann should have the right to disagree now and again, don't you think? Some folks were smart enough to say they "disagreed" with Mr. Olbermann, but certainly will not stop watching him. That's the attitude. :)
DU can be too dogmatic and too prone to groupthink sometimes.

4. I like Ed Schultz about 75% of the time |

I've never been ready to throw Ed under the bus.
If Ed Schultz gets his kicks performing analingus on Joe LIEberman (some people say) once in a while, that's his own business.

I think this is a watershead moment. SC wasn't up there talking to chimpy about anything, it would go right over him. He was there talking to the press. The press heard him and I'm seeing the dam breaking. The press knows full well at this point they got to get on board or wither on the vine with chimpy. The house of cards will fall. SC will one day recieve an award for his balls. I maintain that wasn't comedy and not one bit funny. It was a serious as a heart attack.

12. Oh hell, I enjoyed it tremendously. :) |

I think what he did was great. It's just that I think hero-worship is dangerous.

9. what a time waster of a thread |
|
just because somebody doesn't like a particular BROADCAST/interview/performance doesn't mean that person consigns the object of criticism to the dustbin of conservatism
we have the RIGHT to our opinions, I think. stop with these lockstep threads accusing people of wanting to get rid of somebody for doing ONE thing with which they disagree
it's one of the FAVORITE rhetorical techniques of the other side....taking one incident and equating it to everything the object of criticism has ever said or done.
