6. Absolutely! That took bigger balls than roasting Bush |
|
What Colbert did was good, but it was almost too easy.
Rummy is a verbal gymnast, and this ex-CIA officer took him to the well.
And the fact that he's ex-CIA with 27 years on the job makes it even more devastating.

Colbert is an extremely intelligent man. If he ever did non-satire writing or speaking I'm sure he would rile huge audiences.

Edited on Thu May-04-06 09:19 PM by WildEyedLiberal
But then again, I haven't idol-worshipped Colbert, either. And if he did make a derogatory Kerry joke, as much as I would hate it, I wouldn't throw Colbert under the bus for it. I'd be pissed at his joke, but I'd get over it eventually, because the vast majority of his catalogue is terrific.
My comment was directed at the people who are constantly in search of a new, shiny hero, who absolutely idolize and drool over someone for about two weeks until a newer, shinier hero comes along and/or the old hero does something to piss them off, in which case they are thrown aside and forgotten. You could get whiplash from the groupthink around here sometimes.

Whiplash indeed. DU's heroes aren't just pumped up beyond reason and then thrown aside, but those who aren't 100% "pure" are treated to full-throated howls of outrage as if they had just been spotted by the pod people. It's so predictable you could set your watch by it.
When I saw the video on the Rumsfeld appearance, I joked that the board would explode in two warring factions: the "Former-CIA-Guy for President!" bunch against the "Heavyset-Old-Woman-Dragged-Out-for-Protesting for President!" camp.

Agree with everything you said, especially the demonization of anyone who, for example, has ever been in the presence of George W. Bush and didn't spit on him, set him on fire, or tell him to fuck himself.
