Watergate Subpoenaed in Hooker Probe
By Justin Rood - May 4, 2006, 7:33 PM
I stopped by the Watergate Hotel this afternoon and chatted with Josh Graham, the assistant general manager, about the recent stories swirling around his establishment.

According to Graham, the Watergate has received multiple subpoenas in connection with the Wilkes Hookergate scandal. He went on to say that the hotel is complying with those subpoenas but that he couldn't discuss the content of the orders, nor could he discuss details of the investigation, "out of respect for our guests' privacy."

The Wall Street Journal had originally reported that investigators "had requested, and been given, records relating to the investigation and rooms in the hotel," but not that they had used subpoenas.

I put in a call to the Westin Grand -- the other hotel reportedly used by Wilkes to entertain lawmakers with poker, food, drink and possibly women. No one there could immediately confirm it had received similar subpoenas.

1. This is Watergate on Steroids!
I'm sitting here with a mangled videotape in one hand and a drug needle in the other.

18. Makes me wonder .. what kind of POW the Duke would have been.
It is a hard call, but recent events bring back bad memories. I was at high risk for POW status and I still dream about it. We all wondered if we had what it would take to deal with the Hanoi prison. That is where "Duke" would have ended up had he been shot down.

But late 1970 intercepted message traffic revealed the hard truth to me. T/S-Crypto shoot-down survivors went to the USSR. That's is where I assume my shot-down friends are now.

I think Duke would have been the worst possible cell mate in a POW status.

Secretly screwing strange women in the infamous Watergate Hotel. They probably didn't even need Viagra to get it up.

7. I wonder if the hookers are talking.
I can't imagine that they would trust the US-DOJ after John Ashcroft's intrepid anti-hooker campaign of summer 2001. Remember? Ashcroft nailed 12 hookers in New Orleans while Al Quaeda was preparing Pearl Harbor II.

Shirlington Limo is under investigation, too. It sounds like maybe they procured the "girls." Is a limo service a new front for an escort service? Sounds like it.

Un-pimp your Limo! Jah?

Ever been to Vegas? Limo services are a front for lots of shady things.

10. I am but a lad from the woods, and this raises a question ...
In Vegas, for example, do limos serve as surrogates for the more traditional trysting places (if that's what you call it with a hooker) like the No-Tell chain of motels? Bluntly put, can you "do it" on the roll?
I was of the impression that limo services must be doing more than prom nights to afford those stretched Hummers. Hummers? There is an ad within itself.

17. Y'ever notice how limo drivers are either the punch line or story line
in a lot of jokes and a lot of teevee plots.

20. Splash some of that irony on this: a blogger, not the WP, investigated
All Rood did was walk up and say BOO! -No double super secret background, no midnight meets in parking garages.

It may be just a detail, but it reads like news to me. During the Clinton administration the press would have all had strokes racing to cover this one.

I've wondered how those threats to prosecute reporters would be received. Since they were made, the steady stream of defending bush from a critic's death rays could be a tip off.

21. Don't Bob "Viagra" Dole, and "Liddy "Plastic Surgery Baby Doll"Dole
still have an apartment at the Watergate? And does anyone remember the Bank Scandal over money laundering where Dole was questioned because he walks around will rolls of bills because he says he doesn't like to use a credit card. :D His name came up on the list of folks who were questioned.

Somehow one wonders how it all ties together. I wish I still had the link of those on the list who were being investigated. Other Senators and former
DC officials.

22. Why does DU link to a site that is attacking Patrick Kennedy??
Just curious. One of the lead stories said of Kennedy: 'I wasn't drunk, I was high'. THEN went on to talk about the Ambien he took to sleep and how he ended up sleep-driving.

What kind of site is that, anyway? Pretty cheap shot.
