"Moral Refusal"? WTF?!
A friend clued me into this one:

http://www.talk2action.org/story/2006/5/2/75734/88011

Why are these people being allowed to push their beliefs onto everyone else? Even if it's detrimental to the other person's health? Where do they get off acting like this?

they are being used increasingly not only to deny birth control to women (even if birth control is prescribed for medical reasons unrelated to contraception such as polycystic ovary disease) but even potentially lifesaving medication like antivirals--simply because those antivirals can be used to treat certain forms of STDs.

"Moral refusal" is now expanding to not only include telling women they cannot be treated for herpesvirus infections (including, notably, chickenpox)

These people make me sick, and if it was up to them, they'd let me die from it. Fucking bastards.

3. looks like a 2 edged sword to me..
Increasingly, people in the medical field have to make decisions that have as big of a moral component as a medical component. Who gets what part of the scarce resources, what avenues are best what overall treatment is the most ethical.

It seems like letting these people make moral decisions is part of the job. The problem is, how do you determine when someone is using poor moral judgement? Maybe let the people vote with their dollars. Insurance companies and individuals that use medical services should be able to make the moral decision to blacklist people who are unable to make poor moral decisions. And someone should be making sure that all the medical consumers out there know who these jerks are.

5. No, if you're a pharmacist and you refuse to fill a legit prescription
you are by definition not doing your job--- and you should be fired.

4. Guess what, Moran..er...Moral Refusers...
The virus which causes cervical cancer is an EQUAL OPPORTUNITY VIRUS!
Yep, that's right. You can get that purple-hatted soldier that grants you superiority just as sick and infected...and needing to be removed to save your life...as the lesser gender.

How about giving this 'moral refusal' thing another look?
