Maybe a sign. 'Colbert'

This means something!

1. Yes, it is! You should be yelling "McGovern!"

4. I disagree
Both were in the right place at the right time. They have both furthered the cause. Which imho is to prove that this administration is either corrupt, inept or both. May the Goddess shine on both of them.

8. Yes, but McGovern did it with more cred.
27 years in the CIA vs. how many years on the comedy circuit?

13. Who cares how many years.
Each in his own way can get the point across. We aren't all on the same wave length. Some get their truthisness from comedy, others something more cerebral. As long as we are reaching people however they relate to the mess this administration has caused it's a win. :hi:

14. I agree, madmax. It doesn't always have to be either/or.
It can be both/and! God knows we need more voices out there. I say, let's celebrate them all.

And you are right. They each in their own way get the point across. As does Pink. And Cindy Sheehan. And Neil Young. And the AAR folks. And even you and me, when we speak out. We may not have the audience those other folks do, but even an audience of one can sometimes make a big difference.

15. Again, it's about cred. Look at who has already generated more press.

3. I know what you mean.
Stephen Colbert ... what can one say. Out of left field - Comedy Central. Hits a home run on nationally televised big time soiree. Showed those 'liberal elite media types' how it's done. I love the man. If I were of child bearing age - I'd name my child, Stephen. Even if he were a girl.

10. Reality has a well known Liberal Bias...
But the relevance and succinctness of "Truthiness..." is terrific. For those who never get to hear Cobert's incisive indictment of the President and the MSM, I was thinking more needs to be said (perhaps in small print below the main phrase)? Hmmm... "Republicon Truthiness..." (and other lies), or "Truthiness..." (the Republican absence of Truth), etc...

9. Or "Yeaaaay Colberrrrt ! ! !"
He was just so amazingly, marvelously irreverant and defiant by insisting on retaining his integrity. He just wouldn't participate in the lie, he had to express reality!

In a way, he's even more of an example... we should be reminded that the President is not above other citizens--or shouldn't be. We should not be in awe--or in fear--of our President. The awe we feel for celebrities is a relatively recent development in our country's history--time was, when a President, while respected for his office, wasn't thought of as being a near demi-god. (haha, bush thought to be, in even the slightest way "godlike" really is a funny joke). While powerul, a President is just a... man, no more, no less (well, except for this one--considerably less).

So many have praised his courage, and I do too--indeed, I am awed by a public figure who would dare to express the unflattering truth about a "President" in a public forum with him sitting right there. All the moreso when you consider just how un-Constitutionally powerful this Presidential pretender is, how he not only ignores laws but insists he is above them, and that he hasn't the slightest problem condemning people to the death penalty (even chuckles at their pathetic pleas for mercy), and who is ultimately responsible for both the torture of thousands and the deaths of tens, perhaps tens of tens of thousands of people. That's not even beginning to consider how being so honest would be considered a personal, unforgivable attack by hundreds of the country's most powerful, wealthy people--who won't hesitate to use their power, including their influence over the gargantuan mega-media Corporations... Courage on so many levels. Willing to risk his career, future and potentially even more serious losses.

There may come a time when we all will not only owe this man a debt of honor, but we may have to organize and deliver our own personal influence in large numbers to help prevent or deflect vindictive efforts to destroy this man and/or his career. Perhaps "they" won't dare attempt anything so obvious against someone so well known and well appreciated, but if they do, we should all promise our assistance--after all, it would be such a small thing to do for what's right, and by comparison, not even a risk on our parts.

12. No. Last election, I went out side and yelled "Go Back to Texas"
Edited on Fri May-05-06 12:24 AM by linazelle
into the dark, quiet night. (This was supposed to be done worldwide while the Bush spoke at the convention--but apparently the people in my neck of the woods didn't hear about it). The yelling didn't reach Bush, apparently, but it was exhilarating--especially when my daughter and I ran back into the house and fell on the floor laughing.

So yell.

18. During your last election
I went to bed contented with the thought Kerry had won, but woke up to the news it was Bush again. The horror of it... (I live in Germany)
