When I bought my Nissan truck in 1997, I could fill up my 15 gallon tank in Oregon for under $20. Today I filled up the same truck and the cost was $47! That is by far the most I've ever paid for gas.

I wouldn't mind the high price if it we taxed and put towards research or efficiency programs, but this is just pure profit for the oil companies and it's total bullshit!

What's the most you've ever paid and where was it?

:grr:

6. Damn!
I guess the effect of curbing driving in SoCal isn't all bad, but how the hell are people supposed to pay for that increase? There have been no wage increases in this country for years. It would take all of the money from a minimum wage job just to keep gas in the car in LA.

19. About $7.00 in the UK.
If it was as cheap as $3.50 a gallon, the Brits would hold a national day of celebration.

21. $3.25/gal day before yesterday. Now it's around $3.40 at same place
I filled up my Camry in the early evening for $3.25, drove by the station a few hours later and it had jumped 4¢ in that time. Other stations at the same intersection were about $3.43/gal yesterday afternoon. Around here you can pay substantially more if you're not careful.

Oh, and all these prices are for regular unleaded of course.

War-profiteering and price-gouging -- all business as usual for Big Oil.

22. So far the most I have paid was just after Katrina, $2.99 for regular.
Gas prices have come down in my area of No. Georgia within the past couple of days. Most of the stations are at $2.66 to $2.78. Some are still gouging at $2.89. The farther south you go toward Atlanta, the higher the prices.

25. $5.93 before I emigrated from the UK in 2002.
I run a motorbike, it gets over 50mpg around town. Almost 70mpg highway. I'm not bitching until everyone knows over here what its like to pay for gas at nearly $6 a gallon.

27. I agree that prices should be higher.
I just think that they should be higher because of taxes, not because of record oil company profits.

I also have a Vespa, and that gets about 50mpg as well. I love riding it, but just can't do it every day because of work.

28. I totally agree with you.
Not because of profiteering. But because oil is that much a barrel, and/or environmental regulations, and also R&D costs into finding other methods of powering our cars and homes, and work.

We should be conserving our oil for the plastics (definately NOT shopping bags!) and pharmaceutical industries.
