Rove says Jump.. and we always oblige!
He said JUMP around this time before the presidential elections regarding Gay Marriage and we jumped.

He says JUMP over Illegal Immigrants right before the midterm elections and we jump.

GD is full of threads about Illegal Immigrants now and was full of Gay Marriage threads in 2004.

Gay couples and illegal immigrants have been around for a while...but we didnt tear us ourselves up over it till Rove dictated it.

Its sad how naive we are.

7. I know what a wedge issue is, and I think most DUers do.
I know it is political playtime. I know the diversionary, potentially socially splintering possibilities of these maneuvers. It effectively rouses up the hatemongers, and detracts attention away from serious issues like monarchical executive rule, congressional rubber-stamping, holocaust via hurricane, and domestic spying.

But this crap that Rove et al start DOES get legislation and ammendments on ballots and on the books as law. When the wedge in the issue is being pounded into your own head, you cannot brush it off completely. Are we all to just ignore these tactics? Pretend they have no real world ramifications? Many on the right won't be happy until legislation is passed allowing open hunting season on "furners" and "fags."

8. You must be talking to the 10% on DU that get worked up about....
...those issues.

Evidently, you're one of those 10% since you felt compelled to start yet another thread about it.

Which is why i have more or less ignored the issue entirely. Immigration is a desperation ploy. Stir up some xenophobia. Direct people to funnel their energies against "the others". A feeling that runs pretty deep through their base. The "we Americans are God's gift to the universe and everyone else is so much expendable garbage" sentiment that guides their base's foreign policy outlook. And, that's what it is, an effort to hold on to their base. The "wackos" strategy as someone already posted. Even the republican base cannot stand Bush anymore but they need a way to make sure it doesn't carry over to the whole party. So they figure the immigration issue will bring some sheep back in to the fold. So when they go in to the voting booth they pull the lever for an 'R' to make sure someone does something about "them furiners".

13. He said CRUSADE and they had one against Muslims. After the
hate Muslim was successful, he then pumped up the hate war against Hispanics because it brings the 'hate base' together' so that understanding INS policies doesn't have to be a burden and the dependency of business on the illelgals does not have to be explained.

His is a hate agenda with his hate base and they lap it up without thinking. Loyal resopnders. It's Ok to forget about the teaching of Jesus while you hate.

18. The challenge is to ignore them.
One time I was in a political debate with colleagues and one right winger started up on the problem of welfare

My friend, a democrat, shrugeed and said, "what's wrong with welfare?"

Like he wasn't even going to debate the subject. There is a welfare program. End of story.

There are immigration laws. Many aliens in the U.S. have no valid immigrant or nonimmigrant status. They are deportable. Period. Go ask ICE to deport them. All.
