SUVs on WJ
Edited on Fri May-05-06 06:41 AM by SHRED
Idiots are calling in who own SUVs on gas prices.

Blaming environmentalists, saying "so what" about prices, justifying petroleum use, etc...LOL!
Fucking idiots.

So tunnel visioned.
Gas prices rising affect way more than what we pay for gas.

5. One lady said...
...that she didn't know what MPG her SUV got. She blamed the "environmental fascists" for price rise.
She equated these imaginary people with the same "fascists" that inacted smoking restriction laws.

12. The woman was talking about a GMC SUV. BTW you know thats only estimated
gas mileage? The actually mileage you get depends on tempture of your area, the running condition of the vehicle, trust this, the engine in your SUV will eat more gas as it gets more miles on it. A SUV driven in michigan will get better millage then one driven in texas. Also if you live in an area of hills you'll get less gas mileage then you would if you liked in a flat area. I moved from a city with no hills to one that has many hills and went from putting gas in it once a month, ( I don't drive unless I have to ) to putting 2 tanks of gas a month in the same car.

7. As soon as C-Span introduced this totally stupid topic, I immediately
changed the channel to Turner Classic Movies, regardless of whatever movie they are showing.

Babetter, my toy poodle is watching something about Irving Thalberg and I am in the other room on the computer.

C-Span...bought,owned and serving only the GOP.

8. Not surprised.
A few weeks ago, I got involved in a full on war with posters in the C/net forums over SUVs. From the nonsense they were spouting, you'd think there was an article in the Constitution guaranteeing the right to drive stupidly large vehicles.

The morons fell into four broad categories:

(1) The right to drive an SUV is a manifestation of freedom of choice, the most important freedom we possess;
(2) Screw the environment, I'll let the future generations worry about that. Let's party!;
(3) SUV drivers are patriots because they're helping to burn up all the oil and thereby reduce our reliance on foreign countries;
(4) Global warming is a bunch of lefty propaganda with no basis in reality.

I did a bit of research on the Net into SUVs and came up with this little article:

http://www.washingtonmonthly.com/features/2001/0212.mencimer.html

Predictably, it sent the SUV lovers into a frothing frenzy. They ended up calling me a neomarxist fascist who wanted to take all their freedom away. I expected no less from a crowd who are regarded as maladjusted, insecure and antisocial by the marketing departments of the very companies from which they buy their cars.
