Charlie Cook: Ford Strongest Democrat Recruit In 2006; Tennessee Highly Vulnerable

Highly respected, non-partisan, political expert Charlie Cook has some more great things to say about Harold Ford Jr.

In a May 5th article from the National Journal, Cook says the following about our next U.S. Senator:

"Strange as it might seem, Democrats have a shot at an open Senate seat in the South. Their Tennessee nominee, Rep. Harold Ford, may be their strongest recruit of the cycle in terms of raw talent, political skills, and fundraising ability."

"The nation's current political climate means that Ford, a talented politician with a moderate record, couldn't have a better year in which to run for statewide office in Tennessee. He will be competitive regardless of which Republican he faces in the fall.."

Cook goes on to call the Tennessee Senate seat "Highly Vulnerable" for the Republicans.

Charlie Cook joins a long and growing list list of other political experts who also agree that Harold Ford Jr. is the man in 2006!

1. Ford is the kind of candidate the corporate establishment loves.

That's the reason he gets so much praise from them. I guess he's talented if your idea of political talent is never being controversial and always taking the center-right position on issues. Cook is viewing this through DC Beltway-goggles. I haven't heard anyone explain to me how he's going to win in middle or East Tennessee.

3. My opinion on him has soured a lot
over the last few years. Especially when I saw he was one of those Congressional members supporting Rev. Moon while he was using the floors of the House to declare himself Messiah.

2. Curious: Have you seen any of Corker's ads? He's feeling some pressure
from somewhere - either his primary opponents going into August - or both them and Ford. I've seen 2 different ones in the past 3 weeks and I find it a little odd that he's spending quite a bit of money here in his 'home turf'. Supposedly he's less well known, etc., in the middle and western parts of the state so I'm just curious if you or anyone else is seeing his ads.
