Can We All Sue Fox for Lying About Wiretapping? |
|
Like as in a "Class Action Lawsuit"? Also for lying about past presidents.

1. can individuals/classes sue corporations anymore? |
|
I thought that went out of style w/ tort reform. I thought that only corps. could sue corps. anymore. If I'm right.
(corps. can still sue individuals - if I'm right)

remember, fox went to court to assert their right to lie to the american people. a whistleblower who refused to lie on air was fired for it. he sued, the case went to trial, and fox won on the grounds that there's no law requiring them to tell the truth. while that's true, and probably something that is a necessary evil, it might still be informative that they *purposely* tried to *force* one of their "journalists" to lie on national television, and fired him when he failed to do so.

3. There is an industry term.... |
|
...for what they and others like the National Enquirer do. Some type of journalism privilege like a "poetic license". It's tabloid TV now, strictly for entertainment purposes and promoting agendas. You can't take any news network seriously anymore.

4. Sure we could. Anyone can sue. The issue would be how strong |
|
Edited on Sun Jan-01-06 12:16 PM by shance
the case is, how strong the support is behind the suit, not to mention the competence of the legal team. Most important would be the case itself and legal merit and precedent (and some prevelent case law) by which a party is suing. If you've got the law on your side, then you either have to have a corrupt or a moronic judge, which is possible these days, who will dismiss or drop the case.
I would think you would need a creative team of attorneys who are concerned for the future of the country. The fact remains, our networks are being held hostage by essentially white wealthy supremists (Im white - and I can still see)who are intentionally diluting the quality and the substance of television to project their distorted, bigotted, misogynistic perspective. Don't fool yourself -its not all about ratings. That's a myth.

6. Actually, to sue you'd need |
|
to be able to demonstrate that you've suffered some kind of damages because of their lying.
Personally, I never watch Fox and I'm much happier (and better informed) as a result.

"...to be able to demonstrate that you've suffered some kind of damages because of their lying."
No problem there. When do we start?

What loss have you incurred that can be stated in money terms? Mere "pain and suffering" doesn't do the trick.

9. Condemn, attack, expose - Yes. Sue? Probably not. |
|
For someone to sue, they must have standing to sue, they must have a legal cause of action against the party sued, and they must have damages or harm which have resulted or will result from the actions of the party sued.
Fox News is a cable channel, which is available only as part of a contract between the consumer and the cable company. A consumer has a right to buy the cable services or not, and to watch the channel, or not.
Fox News is annoying, even sinister, but they only preach to choir. The nut jobs who believe Fox News are already part of the lunatic fringe.

Now that's more like what I'm talking about. Law suits are one of the things that are actually destroying this country and you really can't rely on getting the results you are looking for.
Now, good ol' fashioned "You lied to me you son-of-a-bitch" accompanied by a punch in the mouth, that's the kind of action that get results. Makes you feel better too.
Who should we start with and where can we find him.
:sarcasm: (sorta)
