Joe Scarborough was awesome today
Talking about Patrick Kennedy he was incredibly on the mark and defended Kennedy rather vigorously.

I must put a disclaimer in that I hate when I agree with Joe because there's usually so many more times where I don't. But giving credit where credit is due he was really good today.

4. Basically
He said Kennedy was a wonderful person, worked hard for his district, that he 100% believed his Ambien sleepwalking story and cited the NY Times stories as sources and denounced comments from a defense attorney on earlier who doubted the claim and basically said Kennedy will be forgiven and deserves to be because he stepped up and addressed his problem.

Way better than any other conservative hacks I have seen thusfar.

25. Joe is not a neocon. Joe is a paleocon
And a fairly honest one at that. He was awesome during Katrina. He is often not awesome. But he does have his moments.

reasonableness?

3. I just hear the interview
You're so right. I was pleasantly surprised by his sincerity on defense of
Patrick Kennedy. Joe did good, we'll see if the powers that be allow that to
continue.

17. Almost hate to admit it, but I've developed a
bit of a fondness for Joe.

IIRC he was outraged at the railroading of Martha Stewart, too, but IMO the best was his reaction to Kerry's speech at the Dem convention.

He appeared to be quite blown away and said something to the effect that Kerry was a real leader and he could support him enthusiastically. Tweety of course was horrified and immediately began to talk him down.

As for the PTB allowing him to continue--not a chance. He'll find another horse head in his bed tonight. Think he's got quite a collection by now.

28. Kerry Speech
Yes, I remember him talking about how great Kerry's convention speech was. He referred back to it during one of those recap shows after the election. Joe's pretty fair - most of the time.

8. Joe actually said being a Kennedy made it worse
because he said other members of Congress "have done worse" but Kennedy only got the "preferential treatment" claim against him because he's a Kennedy.

6. Wasn't he the guy who was found with a dead intern in his
Florida office? Maybe he can empathize with Kennedy on that level. If he does more of this putting himself in someone else's shoes, there might be hope for him.

7. Scarborough was friends with Ted and Joe Kennedy - they played basketball
together while they were all in congress. Scarborough BETTER show some decency towards them for this considering his own very real coverups.

9. This Joe?
Joe Scarborough, former Republican Congressman, currently a
conservative talk show host. Resigned his congressional seat abruptly
to spend more time with his family, amidst allegations of an affair.
His intern, Lori Klausutis, was soon after found dead in his office.
The medical examiner, who had his license revoked in Missouri for
falsifying information in an autopsy report, and suspended in florida
for six years, ruled the case an accident, after giving conflicting
information about her injuries. He said he lied about them
because "The last thing we wanted was 40 questions about a head
injury."

13. I never said Joe was a saint.
I just thought he did a great job today. I agree the Lori Klausitis thing should have been investigated more. No complaints from me. But that's not really the point of the topic.

10. "Patrick Kennedy is one of the nicest people
you could ever meet... The NYT had a recent, lengthy article about the dangers of Ambien...such a deeply tragic life...plenty of Congress people have done far worse things, and the cops took care of it, and it never made the press..." He REALLY defended him - and I still can't stand him, but he did defend Patrick Kennedy!

12. What JS said
On MSNBC they had Joe on the phone and he said that he and Patrick entered the Congress in the same year in 1994. He said that despite having everything since he was born (financially) he has had a tough life, even recently having to deal with his mother due to her many addictions. But, he said was always the kindest man. He said that many in congress have a public face and a private place, but that Patrick Kennedy was always the same, "Just a very kind man," and that he liked Patrick a lot. He wished him the best of luck in treatment and said, "Hey, these things happen."

he really liked, unlike many of the other Congressmen.

He talked about it on his show and he was very sympathetic to PK.

30. I think it's SO important to give credit where credit is due
Not just because it's the right thing to do but because it's practical as well--especially when it comes to people in the media whose careers, and programming, are driven by feedback and ratings.
