A lot of this right wing sh-- is kept alive by old conservative people who vote. There are alot of them. I was at a meeting today of an organization that is almost all "senior citizens". (I am a "senior"). These people are on their last legs; 60% republican, "old school", talking about the way it used to be, criticizing "these young people"....... We have also some young people from the local university who question Bush** and his policies, big business and politicians who make it tough for the little guy. Hang in there, we will win out, when these old fuckers leave the scene. The dirty bastards are dying out.

1. Most of the old people I know are Bush HATERS!
My aunt lives in a senior complex, and during the last election, I let it slip that I was working with MoveOn...

I was like a CELEBRITY there!

I heard more outspoken Bush criticism from those seniors (Macomb County, MI) than I did in ANY other group, INCLUDING my Dem group!

But I'm sure there are equal and opposite groups further north of me. :)

2. Voting has nothing to do with empowering these people
And the seniors I know are also against W. (in fact, everyone I know is against W)

4. Around here, (W. PA) there are many of those old "Grange" type who
are stuck in the old "Flag and 2nd amendment", Hate for Gays, Hatred of new ideas, conservative, bible thumping mode. Lots of them. They vote. Sometime in the near fututre they won't- the baby boomers who are more progressive will take over. Thats the point I'm trying to make.

3. Good post.
We are going to win.

There are just too many of us who love FDR and what he stood for and see what these bastards did with that legacy. I am not quite a senior yet, but I deeply respect my elders. I think we all hit an age where we understand that this is true.

Anyway, great post!!

Joe

5. Roberts and Alito are rather young and will have a far-ranging
impact on our society thanks to lifetime appointments. The Right also has established a system that identifies, recruits and cultivates young conservative "intellectuals" from colleges...the left, to my knowledge, does no such thing (if they do I sure wish they'd recruit and cultivate me).

We also must re-establish a more independent news media in the society, otherwise the "dirty bastards'" message will continue to drown out our interests.
