If you don't get it all off the metal, it will come back. This scandal has been bubbling under the surface for quite some time. Shortly after WWII a banker doing business with nazis is elected to the Senate.

Ok, now Rust never sleeps. Poppy, Rummie and Cheney should have been taken out in the Watergate cleanup, but were missed. When Ford came in to slap some duct tape over it and shoot it with primer, he tapped Rummie as Chief of Staff and Poppy for the CIA. By this time I think we can assume fairly easily that if there was dirt on anyone to be had Poppy probably had it.

Now Poppy and Goss go way back to '58 or so working on the Cuban problem. There's a few shady guys that pop up later during Iran-Contra which demonstrate Goss has always been a hatchet man, and was sent into the heart of the CIA to exorcise the patriotic demons that believe in the constitution. The ones who know right from wrong.

Is what we are seeing now the first pinpricks of the rust bubble surfacing? Or, is it simply Mission Accomplished? I think the former given the quick nature of the resignation. Attendees at a Pentagon meeting didn't know he would be absent. Did a patriot catch him by the short and curlies? I hope so.

Oh, and Larissa is right it keeps going back through Iran since Poppy got the reigns.

I'm serious. If you are doing auto body work, do you have to cut the rust out, or can you file/sand it off and then treat it. What do you treat it with?

As for the analogy, I agree completely. I've said before that even if we win in '06 and '08 they will not go away. They will continue to undermine and plot and reappear in an even worse form in the future. We need an antidote.

You can obviously cut it out, which is probably best if you have a hole to repair, otherwise you can grind and sand it out but that thins the metal also.

There are some high tech chemical converters but all of them that I'm aware of are carcinogenic.

Haven't done body work in ages, I'm sure we have more qualified than I to answer this.
