WASHINGTON -

(snip)

Kyle (Dusty) Foggo, the No. 3 official at the CIA, could soon be indicted in a widening FBI investigation of the parties thrown by defense contractor Brent Wilkes, named as an unindicted co-conspirator in the bribery conviction of former Rep. Randall (Duke) Cunningham, law enforcement sources said.

A CIA spokeswoman said Foggo went to the lavish weekly hospitality-suite parties at the Watergate and Westin Grand hotels but "just for poker."

Intelligence and law enforcement sources said solid evidence had yet to emerge that Goss also went to the parties, but Goss and Foggo share a fondness for poker and expensive cigars, and the FBI investigation was continuing.

Larry Johnson, a former CIA operative and a Bush administration critic, said Goss "had a relationship with Dusty and with Brent Wilkes that's now coming under greater scrutiny."

(snip)

"It's all about the Duke Cunningham scandal," a senior law enforcement official told the Daily News in reference to Goss' resignation. Duke, a California Republican, was sentenced to more than eight years in prison after pleading guilty in November to taking $2.4 million in homes, yachts and other bribes in exchange for steering government contracts.

Goss' inability to handle the allegations swirling around Foggo prompted John Negroponte, the director of National Intelligence, who oversees all of the nation's spy agencies, to press for the CIA chief's ouster, the senior official said. The official said Goss is not an FBI target but "there is an impending indictment" of Foggo for steering defense contracts to his poker buddies.

(snip)

"Supposedly the \ scandal was the last straw," the source said. "This administration may be on the verge of a major scandal."

1. Wow, Yesterday CNN and the rest had no mention of this.

What a difference a few hours makes to a story these days.

"CIA Director Porter Goss abruptly resigned yesterday amid allegations that he and a top aide may have attended Watergate poker parties where bribes and prostitutes were provided to a corrupt congressman."

That sure is a new lead to the story for the MSM. O the shock of it all.

2. Larry Johnson, is being cited.

Larry Johnson, a former CIA operative and a Bush administration critic, said Goss "had a relationship with Dusty and with Brent Wilkes that's now coming under greater scrutiny."

Johnson vouched for the integrity of Foggo and Goss but said, "Dusty was a big poker player, and it's my understanding that Porter Goss was also there \ for poker. It's going to be guilt by association."

4. Strange
another poster below says the rumors in FL are that Goss is going to replace Harris. Guess it is just wishful thinking on their part.

6. All of the RW sites are pushing this theory
that Goss will challenge Ben Nelson in Florida (after they get rid of KH, I guess.)

They cite the fact that bush wouldn't have taken such cozy pictures with goss yesterday if goss was soon to be embarrassed by the investigation....they keep pushing the FL Senate race....wishful thinking on their part, IMHO

7. Wishful thinking, indeed.
If the disgraced former congressman Goss is their best hope in the Florida senate race, then November is looking brighter and brighter for Dems, if you ask me.

:-)

Washington is all about guilty-by-association. Even if Goss isn't the one under investigation, his ol' buddy Dusty Foggo will drag him down right along with him.

10. They don't understand that the Monkey's strong suit is loyalty
He PERSONALLY picked Goss for the job. That was his choice, like Harriet Miers.

He HAD to sit beside him, because of his loyalty rep. When the truth hits, he'll be 'appalled and disappointed' at the nature of the allegations, and of course will have no further comment due to the ongoing aspect of the investigation!!!!

The bullshit writes itself!!!

8. Don't believe everything the freepers
spread around the internet. That is the last thing to GOP needs is Porter Goss in the race.

Oh no, you don't immedicately step down in BushCo unless you are in seriously deep shit.

Not a guy like Porter who was recruited when he was at Yale with Negroponte.

11. It is very odd, that he wasn't given a month to clear out his desk
...and to do a turnover with his replacement. Hell, even Ari hung around for awhile, though Scott McClellan had been a presstitute with Bush since he was governor, and had more access to Bush than Ari did. Ari could have left the same day he announced, and the wheels would have continued to grind away without a slip.

The IMMEDIATE nature of this event is only understandable in the case of serious, life-threatening illness. And Goss looked as healthy as he always does sitting up there in the Oval with the Monkey. Of course, he could be scheduled for a freedomectomy in fairly short order....

14. Ari even got to go to Africa
with the pResident after he had turned in his resignation. That seems odd that someone who was leaving would be included on such a trip?

12. Goss and 9/11 may also spill out
On the morning of September 11, 2001, former legendary CIA agent Porter Goss, who was then a House member from Florida, and chair of the House Intelligence Committee, and Florida Senator Bob Graham, chair of the Senate Intelligence Committee, were having breakfast with Lt. Gen. Mahmoud Ahmad, the head of Pakistan's intelligence agency, the Inter-Service Intelligence (ISI). This breakfast was taking place as the first planes crashed into the north tower of the World Trade Center in New York.

Mainstream media reports later showed that Gen. Ahmad was a funder of the 9/11 attacks, having ordered the wiring of $100,000 to Mohammed Atta, which was used for expenses such as flight school training. Before the attacks, Atta was of course living in Florida in an area just adjacent to Goss's congressional district.

Goss later recalled that the subject of the breakfast meeting with Atta's sponsor was "terrorism" emanating from Afghanistan, which presumably means Osama bin Laden's terrorist network, the organizer of Atta's attacks.

If Goss comes under investigation for corruption, one suspects that a second look at his 9/11 connections would be in order.
