Help me choose a protest message
I live about a mile from Dover Air Force Base -- you know, the one into which they surreptitiously, in the middle of the night, fly all the bodies of the Americans killed in Iraq. The front gate of the base is in walking distance from my home...

I want to take up a sign and walk up and down the street headed toward the base, but I don't know exactly what message is MOST appropriate. Considering the function of this particular air base, it's a rather sensitive issue. I want to avoid giving ammunition to the Freepbots to assault me with, so I want to be sensitive and appropriate in my protest.

Do I blame Bush? Make an appeal for peace? Mention those lost and maimed in combat? Offer some sort of brief argumentative statement? Or appeal to emotions? It has to be brief and to the point. You all know the type of message I am talking about.

I fully expect to be arrested. It's a busy four-lane street, intersecting with another four-lane street and an off-ramp to a limited access highway near the base's main gate. That alone will be enough for the cops to take me in. Not that they would bother if I weren't carrying an anti-war sign, but all the excuse they will need. I just want to make sure that I am perfectly on-message, and don't give the righties any ammo to accuse me of hating the troops, or not caring about their families...

The fact is, I have nothing to lose. I've been out of work for over a year, don't have children or other such responsibilities. If I can't take it to the streets, especially considering that I have a location of interest for the peace movement almost in my backyard, who can? Who would?

Any suggestions on a message?

7. If it's Dover...
where the bodies are brought back, my sign would read:

"Are we going to keep them all there until this is the only way they come home?"

8. In Britain, they hold televised ceremonies to honor the war dead
In Dover, they sweep the dead under the carpet.

America, do you really support the troops?

9. Express your condolences...
...to the parents of the fallen. That's always the most powerful form of protest. Just let them know you feel for them. People are not as stupid as repukes believe, and can connect the dots. At least when their votes are counted.

12. Thanks for the replies
there's some good stuff there. I'm going to be planning for the next few days, and head out next Saturday. I'll be sure to report back on what happened. Wish there was some way to take some pics, but it will be just me out there.
