Are Republicans Truly Proud of Their Conservative Ideology?
So as I was listening to the Alito hearings on Cspan Radio while I was at work today, a thought came to me.

Are Republicans truly proud of their conservative ideology? Think about it!

Over the year, it seems to me that many (but not all) Republican nominees for the Supreme Court have distanced themselves from their membership and/or assocation with conservative organizations/activist groups.

John G. Roberts distanced himself from his membership in the Federalist Society.

And now Samuel Alito is doing the same. He didn't mind touting his membership in CAP to the Reaganites, but now he wants to distance himself from it.

Which leads me to 2 conclusions: 1) The Republicans really aren't proud of their ideology and 2) They know their ideology is outside the mainstream of American jurisprudence, and they are not the same values of a majority of Americans.

I'm covering this on my blog today: http://progressiveminds.bloghi.com/2006/01/11/republicans-aren-t-truly-proud-of-their-conservative-philosophy.html

1. If only it was conservative ideology
But it's not, it's a far cry from "conservative." It's downright backwards.

2. The current Republican ideology is NOT conservative - it's fascist.
They hide behind the word conservative the way they hide behind the flag and religion - to them they are just three different masks they put on depending on who they need to fool.

3. That's because they know their ideology, if put into actions,
is treasonous.

7. Yep. That's exactly my point.
They dont' mind touting their conservative credentials to their fellow conservatives. Like I said on my blog today, when Samuel Alito wrote about his affiliation with CAP on his job application for the Reaganites, it's like he was saying to them "I'm one of you."

But now he wants to disassociate himself from CAP now that he's a SC nominee.

Which leads me to believe that deep down, Republicans know they are outside the mainstream, and the majority of Americans don't share their values.

If Alito felt like a majority of Americans would be proud of him for being a member of CAP, he would be bragging about it today. Not running away from it.

"Daddy was a selfish prick."

6. It's a chameleon ideology.
It changes to fit the circumstances. They'll lie, hide, deny everything to get the prize. Moral relativists and hypocrits of the highest order.

8. It's the philosophy that the ends justifies the means.
It goes back to Machiavelli and even further back into antiquity, but Machiavelli outlined it very well.
