Only 26% of Americans favor withdrawl from Iraq within 6 months.
We can't win on Iraq in 06' by merely calling for getting out now. We have to show the American people we are capable of leading with a better, more intelligent plan than the Administration while constantly reminding Americans we never needed to have gotten ourselves into Iraq in the first place and the tragic toll this unecessary war has taken.

"Forty-nine percent of those polled said they support establishing a timetable for withdrawal, while 47 percent said the troops should remain until their objectives are achieved.

Only 26 percent favored a withdrawal of troops within six months."

Responses to questions about a U.S. withdrawal had a sampling error of plus-or-minus 3 percentage points.

3. There's a lot of truth to that.
I hope at least Dems go into the 06' elections with their eyes wide open.

I don't want to lose again because of the peception Democrats are "weak on National Security."

We need to be right, but we also need to be smart.

8. The public still feel Dumbya is a strong leader? Despite all the scandals
Bush is always on the fringe of the scandals and seems invincible. The only way to get him is to get Rove.

10. It's not just the current Administration.

We are fighting a perception of Democrats that has been propagated by the Republican Party for the past 35 years.

Edit: What I mean to say is Bush get's a lot of free on undeserved credit for being "strong" on national security merely because he is a Republican. The Republicans benefited greatly from 9/11 and will continue to exploit the perception of Dems as being the weaker party in regards to national security issues. We need to be smarter than they are in order to change this perception.

4. As we remind Bushco constantly, the Iraq War has nothing to do with 9-11.
Maybe there is a sense of responsibility that some can't see.

5. I often wonder how the poll was worded
and what all the choices were. Polls can be very misleading.

14. I wonder who these vassalating fuckheads are.
same ones who are still "undecided"'s with 1 week to go before election. do they ask these questions while the people are distracted by work as an air traffic controller, construction worker, etc?

it's simply amazing that a few days of news one way or the other can get us to 45% think war was a bad idea to 60% think war was a bad idea to 52% think war was a bad idea. WTF, people?

16. mainly because they don't read newspapers, watch news
they come home from work put the football or baseball on and have a few cans of beer and then it's straight to bed and then to work again. They heard about 9/11 and they still feel scared of Arabs. Abramoff - whose that?

15. Screw the polls.
Stand up for what's right. There's already a party that wants to stay in Iraq.

19. So is the assumption that public opinion is static.
One role of a political leader is to sway public opinion. Obviously one needs to be realistic about the extent to which this can be done, but to tailor one's views to appease the poll of the day is simply pathetic.

20. Maybe.
But I'll stand or fall by it. After all, it's a basic issue of right and wrong. Simplicity can be good in such cases.
