Casualties vs. Fatalites.....help needed.. |
Hi! My husband asked me to talk to 'my people'..as he refers to DU, about the crawl during prime-time on MSNBC. They continue to list the 'fatalities' as 'casualties'. The numbers reflect fatalities, but they continuously cite the number as casualties. At first, he thought it was a mistake. He has emailed, and phoned, and nothing has changed. Now he is convinced, and infuriated that they are purposely trying to downplay the tragedy that is those soldiers dying every day in Iraq. So..if anyone else, feels the spirit move them...to request MSNBC correct, what they already know to be inaccurate information concerning the deaths of our soldiers on their crawl...here is some contact info...

1. Casualties always used to mean "killed, wounded and missing" |
decimated used to mean "reduced by 10%." Now casualty seems to mean "dead" and decimated means whatever.

2. By that actual definition, we've had at least 17,000 casualties. |
Though that's just the "offical" count. Estimates are as high as 48,000. And of course the Iraqi casualties are much, MUCH higher. Especially "collateral damage," i.e. civilian deaths and wounds. http://www.antiwar.com/casualties/
