11. Buy both O:M albums if you dont have them already!
The first has ranked consistently in my top 5 for the last 5 years now. The lyrics are just as relevant now as they were when the album was released in 1988.

8. Don't forget the new Tool!
The song "Right in Two"...

Angels on the sideline,
Puzzled and amused.
Why did Father give these humans free will?
Now they're all confused.

Don't these talking monkeys know that Eden has enough to go around?
Plenty in this holy garden, silly monkeys
Where there's one you're bound to divide it
Right in two

Angels on the sideline,
Baffled and confused.
Father blessed them all with reason,
And this is what they choose?

Monkey killing monkey killing monkey over pieces of the ground.
Silly monkeys give them thumbs they forge a blade
And where there's one they're bound to divide it
Right in two

Monkey killing monkey killing monkey over pieces of the ground.
Silly monkeys give them thumbs they make a club,
And beat their brother down.
How they survive so misguided is a mystery.
Repugnant is a creature who would squander the ability,
To lift an eye to heaven, conscious of his fleeting time here.

/ Cut it all right in two]
/ Cutting our love right in two]

Fight over the clouds, over wind, over sky
Fight over your lie, over blood, over anything
Fight over love, over sun, over nothing
Fight till they die,
(Ahhh!) over what? for their ending

Angels on the sideline again,
Mixing love with patience and reason.
Angels on the sideline again,
Wondering where this tug of war will end.

/ Cut it all right in two]
/ Cutting our love right in two]

12. Also - Vicarious
ye on the the TV
'Cause tragedy thrills me
Whatever flavor it happens to be, like...
"Killed by the husband"
"Drowned by the ocean"
"Shot by his own son"
"She used a poison
in his tea...kissed him goodbye"
That's my kind of story
It's no fun 'til someone dies

Don't look at me like
I am a monster
Frown out your one face
But with the other
Stare like a junkie
Into the TV
Stare like a zombie

While the mother holds her child
Watches them die
Hands to the sky crying,
"Why, oh why?"

Cause I need to watch things die... from a distance
Vicariously I live while the whole world dies
YOU ALL NEED IT TOO, DON'T LIE

Why can't we just admit it?
Why can't we just admit it?
We won't give pause until the blood is flowing
Neither the brave nor bold
Will write as the story's told
We won't give pause until the blood is flowing

I need to watch things die... from a good safe distance
Vicariously I live while the whole world dies
You all feel the same, so...

Why can't we just admit it?

Blood like rain come down
Drown my grave and ground

Part vampire
Part warrior
Carnivore and Voyeur
Stare at the transmittal
Sing to the death rattle

La, la, la, la, la, la-la-lie (x4)

Credulous at best
Your desire to believe in
Angels in the hearts of men
Pull your head on out, your head please
, and give a listen
Shouldn't have to say it all again

The universe is hostile, so impersonal
Devour to survive... so it is, so it's always been

We all feed on tragedy
It's like blood to a vampire

Vicariously I live while the whole world dies
Much better you than I

16. Wonderful albums, but...
These are all really wonderful albums. I immediately hopped on iTunes and bought some of the songs. I already had Neil's album pre-ordered actually. There is one bad side to these though. The songs only have only a use now. In 3-4 years after the Bush regime is gone (hopefully) these songs won't have a meaning as much as they do now. They will be like some boy-band that got lost 5 years ago. They will just be some songs you used to think had powerful meaning. i really enjoyed these songs, and thanks for posting them.

19. Then again, I still listen to "Four Dead in Ohio" on the radio
...and am really moved by it, though I was barely alive when the events at Kent State took place. Of course, I have a good sense of history and am not self-limited to only "new" music, like a lot of the younger people I know.

And welcome to DU!

17. Not exactly "new," but...NO BRAVERY by James Blunt
Originally written about the genocide in Bosnia-Herczegovina, one fine individual that many of us are well aware of turned it into one hell of a music video about Iraq.

24. John Prine has one too
Some Humans Ain't Human on his Fair and Square CD

"OR YOU'RE FEELING YOUR FREEDOM
AND THE WORLD'S OFF YOUR BACK
SOME COWBOY FROM TEXAS
STARTS HIS OWN WAR IN IRAQ"

I saw him in concert last night and he was fabulous - the guy sitting in front of me didn't care for the lyrics of this song.
