Mexico wants migrant rights in U.S., but is harsh to undocumented Central
By Mark Stevenson
ASSOCIATED PRESS

EXCERPT

TULTITLAN, Mexico – While migrants in the United States have held tremendous demonstrations in recent weeks, the hundreds of thousands of undocumented Central American migrants in Mexico suffer mostly in silence.

Considered felons by the Mexican government, they fear detention, rape and robbery. Police and soldiers hunt them down at railroads, bus stations and fleabag hotels. Sometimes they are deported; more often officers simply take all their money.

While Mexico demands the humane treatment of its citizens who migrate to the U.S., it appears to be unable to guarantee similar rights for Central American migrants to this country.

1. In all fairness, Mexico is not like the US
Doesn't have the same economy.

Reality is, if the Mexicans would get a clue, they could be rich.

They just don't get it.

I don't think its behavior should affect the lawful migration of Mexicans to the U.S. if that's the point of the article.

God knows we can't help how terrible our government behaves sometimes. We certainly can't blame the Mexican citizens either.

edit: spelling

8. What in the hell are you talking about with Gray Davis? Yes, he was
quite the oppressor :sarcasm:

Maybe the Mexicans are trying to do something about it. You don't know that they're not.

And by the way, the last time I checked, the Americans haven't gotten rid of this government. Huh come?

9. I don't understand your point about Mexico exporting its problems to the
U.S.

Are you saying the Mexican government's treatment of Central Americans is the fault people who are here lawfully and are productive members of United States society?

I believe you referred to them as "problems."

6. Interesting that immigrants in Mexico don't want to stay in Mexico
They use Mexico as a bridge to go north but it's true all immigrants deserve to be treated with dignity
