They hate "disunity." That hate free speech. They were frothing at the mouth during their Gulf War I triumphalism that the Democrats would not even dare run a candidate in the next election, Bush I was so popular. (The Democrats dared and Clinton won).

They really do want to do away with self government, so they can be in charge. They hate that people think for themselves, preferring to think that they can have "unity" by just keeping access to information and arguments away from the People.
