Middletown - An outcry brought the case against Middletown High School art teacher Peter Panse to the fore in this troubled school district.

Now, a public hearing will give a view into why the district felt that Panse's offering his students a nude figure-drawing course outside of school warranted his suspension.

In a district scarred by the 2003 arrest of former Superintendent Robert Sigler for molesting a teenage boy, the case has reverberated strongly. In January, school board President Vincent Crescenzo said the charges were brought against Panse because, "We didn't want it said that the Board of Education again turned a blind eye to the abuse of children."

Some students and parents fumed, saying Panse is a great teacher who helped students build up their portfolios.

1. The Art Director just left our community college over nudes
More like pushed out by the President of the College. I think if they had their way, they'd reenact the Comstock law.

2. It reminds me of my high school teacher.

When I was a junior and senior my art teacher invited me to a nude figure drawing class outside of high school. Man, you should've seen the looks my portfolio got! It took me awhile to get use to having someone stand there in the nude for so long. But eventually I got into the drawing aspect. :P

Our principle was doing his rounds around classrooms and noticed the nudes I had in my potfolio. When he asked my teacher about them, she explained they were from classes outside of the school that she invited me to. Surprisingly, he was so impressed, he offered extra funds to the art class budget that my teacher had requested!

3. The kid in question got in to art school based on nude drawings
it is just that the Middletown school district is in a large amount of controversy as their former superintendent is in jail as a pedophile.

4. OMG!
Nudity! What will the children think? And what does nudity have to do with art?

The human body is a disgusting cesspool of sinful urges designed to entice us into depravity, sinful pleasure, and degraded animal sexual lust!

Quick! Bring on the ultra violent video games and prep sports to rid us of the EEEEEEEEEVIL!

And now, back to my cloister...

7. Speaking of nudity...Is Asscroft's shroud still covering Justices boobs?
Just wondering if Roberto had changed the policy on trying to hide Justice from the US.

8. Repuke attack on arts education is systemic...
The low-tax, no tax, knuckledragger, paint chip eating Republicans in local communities have systematically undermined the ability of schools to offer arts education.

My school district is looking at a 3 million dollar budget deficet thanks to No Rich Child Left Behind, Bush tax cuts, GOP congressional program cuts and increased spending for war.

Top that off with selfish local nazi boot lickers fighting for that $200 dollar property tax savings our public education education system is spinning down the gurgler.

Back to school neo-con style...unfunded mandated Readin' Writin' Rithmatick testing...all the time. Punishment based systems designed to cripple schools and force parents to private schools.

Add to that school vouchers and you stick the fork in the last great American public institution, our schools.

How long before Halliburton gets the contract to build private schools...?

These fucker republicans won't stop until every public service is privatized so they can live fat off the flesh of the people. Vampire suck bags.
