Did Hillary Clinton Cry
Edited on Wed Jan-11-06 09:30 PM by maxrandb
when these bastards called her husband a rapist, or a murderer, or a drug dealer, or a communist?

Did Tipper Gore cry when these bastards called her husband a liar, or a cheat, or a bore?

Did Theresa Kerry cry when these bastards dragged her husband through the mud, or when they plastered Purple Heart Bandages on their pasty white faces, mocking the wounds he received defending this country?

Did Janet Reno cry when these bastards called her a dyke, or a child killer, or a jack booted thug.

Did Madeline Albright cry when they mocked her wardrobe or accused her of being a communist?

Do you, DU'ers, cry when the bastards on talk radio, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, call you a communist, or a baby killer, or an anti-American traitor, or a terrorist sympathizer that hates America and wants more American troops killed?

I'll tell you, I'm not crying. I've moved beyond tears, to a pure, blistering, white hot rage. I'm sick of these holier than thou bastards and the destruction they've caused my country. I'm sick of their preying on the emotions and fears of Americans to line the pockets of their effing corporate masters.

They can take their "crocodile tears" and shove 'em right up their tight-wad assholes.

4. The issue is that the Bush White House has politicized EVERYTHING.
So the wife of a nominee for the Supreme Court ends up in a political situation. Used to be one had to be a wonderful jurist to make it to the Supreme Court. Rove, GOP, Neocons changed the Rules.

35. It was a pure set up
Go back and watch and you can tell. Also someone called in Malloy's show last night and told how someone in the audience (the former RNC guy) kept coughing and watch her too. It's purely a set up. And Graham whisked comments through while people were distracted.

40. I agree. A complete ploy.
I don't buy for one second that Alito's wife isn't tough enough to hear Kennedy demand some documents about his past. This was a complete ploy by the GOP so they could try to make Kennedy and the Dems look like mean, scary people who are trying to smear a good, honest man. Unfortunately, I think its working too.

8. No, Hillary certainly did not cry.
I watched them every day and wondered how they could even get up in the morning, much less function (and well), during all the horrible times they were put through. Before this "breakdown" I'd been watching "the Mrs." in the background, thinking what a severe, strict person she seems. She reminded me of a mean nun I had in 4th grade. She was laughing at a question Kennedy was asking, in such a dismissive, haughty way, I thought - this lady should go home. It was so inappropriate for her to be reacting to the questions. Then she turns on the waterworks, and its the mean old dems made me cry! If you can't stand the heat...

52. Well, they do say that the real test of a person's
mettle is how they respond to adversity. I'd say Hillary passes that test.

The thing that makes me so angry is the Repuke Party blatantly playing on the fears and emotions of America. They've turned our political debate into this scorched earth, and then want to cry when the tables are turned.

Seems to me that if Mrs Alito is so distraught, her husband ought to withdraw so he can take some time and comfort her. That would be the "family values" thing to do.

How's this for an example of a skewed media?

Howard Dean shows strong emotion with a scream of joy: He's deemed unstable

Democratic Presidential candidate (I can't remember who, but it was in the 70's) cries because his wife has been slandered: He's unfit to be President

Justice Alito's wife cries because her husband's truthfulness, candor, and past associations are brought into question: Oh that poor, poor man. Let's stop asking questions and just let him be, can't you see how "hurt" his little "wifey" is?

It sickens me.

17. Jackie never cried...
Edited on Wed Jan-11-06 10:38 PM by Blue Belle
I agree whole heartedly with your statement and find the hypocrisy of the right on this issue laughable to the point the wind is knocked out of me.

(I posted this on another thread, but it still applies.)

You never see Hilary cry even though she's been the punchline of EVERY joke at every GOP function (fund raising or otherwise) since 1991. You never saw Theresa cry when they literally made up accusations about her Husband's honor and patriotism. You never saw Elizabeth cry when they called her Husband an ambulance chaser and held him responsible for everything from the reasoning behind the need for Tort Reform, to reason why our Health Care Costs are so expensive. You never saw Roslyn cry when they called her husband weak and incompetent. You never saw Jackie cry at her husband's funeral or even when he was killed (at least she never cried in front of the Cameras).

Note to Mrs. Alito:

You're the wife of a Politician. And even though you've been spared the scrutiny of having to run for election, you should be well aware that bringing unsavory tid-bits of your husband's past out into the open is part of the vetting process - especially when a life-time appointment is at stake. If you can't take the heat, get the fuck out of the kitchen - and take your monumentally bad fashion choices and mealy-mouthed, yes-man of a husband with you. I don't know where you've been living, but in America we expect our Political wives to take personal hits about their family with the intestinal fortitude of a Pittsburgh Steelers Offensive Line-man, and to shake it off with the grace and regality of a Prima Ballerina. If you can't handel it, either up your dosage of Prozac, or watch the hearings from the comfort of your living room, but stop making a spectacle of yourself. Great women - women more deserving of the limelight and our sympathy - scrape more taxing shit off the bottom of their Jimmy Choo's every day.

25. Hillary Clinton didn't do all the things
that Republican scandal fabricators hit her with. Samuel Alito did apparently really belong to and was proud of his involvement in a bigoted organization.

Dems are supposed to take Repub and media lies with equanimity, or they'll get pissed on even more. Republicans on the other hand are the aggrieved victims whenever someone so much as tells the truth about them. This goes from Alito's wife all the way to the highest levels of national policy, where the DOJ is investigating who dared to out the truth about BushCo's illegal domestic wiretapping rather than the illegal wiretapping. The poor Republican criminals are the victims of people who said look at the criminals.

That while they bashed John Edwards, his wife Elizabeth had breast cancer.
All of these women had dignity and class.
Something of which you do not see in the Republican women of today including the Ann Coulters, Michelle Malkans, and Monica Crowleys.
I have to say that Pat Nixon, Betty Ford, and even Nancy Reagan could give these women some lessons in fortitude and how to act in grace under fire.

because they were trying so hard to get her to break down.

I cried, watching her being interviewed on C-Span (about her book, "The Woman Who Wouldn't Talk").
I know exactly what you mean. She's an amazing person.

I'm sure she cried when they murdered her husband.
http://www.anotherperspective.org/advoc189.html
On a far more somber note, the reason Jim McDougal, the Clinton's Whitewater partner and about the only person Kenneth Starr's $40 million witch hunt has caught in its absurd net, died while in prison was a simple case of gross medical negligence by the prison staff. As a condition of his imprisonment, McDougal was required to submit to random urine tests for illegal drugs (although there was never any indication nor proof that he had ever used them). As he was on the heart medication digitalis and Prozac, both having the unfortunate side effect of an inability to urinate, he could not provide a sample within the arbitrary two hour time limit the prison enforced. Because of his inability to pee on command, McDougal was placed in solitary confinement where all of his medication was taken from him. After strip searching him and doing a full cavity search (if you don't know what that means, don't ask, you don't want to know), he was placed in a cell where he was ignored for more then eleven hours before a guard reported that McDougal wasn't responding when spoken to through the "talk hole" in the cell's door. Only then were medical personnel called who, after an hour, took him out on a stretcher and declared him dead.

In other words, the prison system that Kenneth Starr and his fellow far right radicals so worship murdered a man because he couldn't urinate on command.

As TahitiNut pointed out, so brilliantly, on another thread:

Yet these are the people who don't think it's 'torture' unless permanent
... organ damage results - or death. Kabuki. Staged. Rehearsed. Deliberate. Bullshit melodrama.

45. That's when we should have known
That was our canary in the mine. When we didn't rise up to defend Susan McDougal and just let her rot in jail, that's when we lost our sense of righteous indignation in this country and willingness to stand up for wrong. I remember at the time being so surprised the country was just willing to let this woman sit in jail, a political prisoner, no doubt about it. That's one thing we have all over the Repubs I guess, we do have a few people of integrity like Susan. They would rat out their mothers for a day less in jail.

53. As my mama would have said....
Hillary is a lady. Tipper Gore and Theresa Kerry are ladies.
Chelsea Clinton was a beautiful, loved, well reared child. Now she's a woman and she knows, because her parents taught her, how great she is.

They are proud of who they are because they know they have nothing to hide.

I got to ask Hillary a quick question when Bill was running for president - she came through our town campaigning. I asked her what she and her husband said to Chelsea about how badly they were treated in the media - all the stories.

She told me they had talked to Chelsea before the campaign ever started, telling her "They're going to talk about your dad, they're going to talk about your mom, they're even going to talk about the cat. It doesn't mean anything."

She was a tough, smart kid, and she listened to her tough, smart parents. A lot of us in Arkansas are awfully proud of all of them.

66. Real Women!
The difference is that those are REAL women!

Hillary didn't get mad - she got even. Now she's a damn good Senator in her own right.

Tipper went through a lot of sh*t on her own, especially from people in the music industry. Almost losing your kid in an accident gave her a different perspective on life.

Mama T just told 'em to "shove it!"

Janet Reno was able to laugh at herself so much that she even guested on SNL during her last month in office and led the "Janet Reno Dance Party".

Madeline Albright, when called a snake by Saddam Hussein, wore a diamond-studded pin in the shape of a snake on her lapel.
