<snip>Clark said a fair trial in the midst of such widespread violence sweeping the country was impossible.

He said it should be transferred to a court that was legal, independent, impartial and competent, working in a safe environment "free of prejudicial influences."

Saddam and seven others are on trial for the executions of 148 people in Dujail in 1982 following a failed assassination attempt. Clark said those executed had signed confessions and under Iraqi law, the death penalty was mandatory for treason.

"It is common for the law to require the highest official of a state to approve and sign death warrants. George W. Bush signed 152 such warrants as governor of Texas," he said.

1. Just make sure you clarify: Ramsey Clark. let's avoid confusion.
It's a significant fact - if true - but considering the source, I'd want a more reliable one.

4. Excellent point. Also notice that it was Bush as a governor
And a one term governor for "only" four years.

5. RC didn't indicate the total number of death warrants that
Saddam signed for his tenure. 148 death warrants for the Dujail 'incident'.

Presumably RC's also defending the conduct of their trials and the conduct of the investigators. "Legal" covers a lot of ground.

3. Excellent point!
Bush has written that “by far the most profound” decision he or any governor can make is whether to proceed with an execution. “I get the facts, weigh them thoughtfully and carefully, and decide,” Bush wrote. What he did not say is that he normally does this in 15 minutes.

6. King George sent to their deaths all but ONE person....Henry
Lee Lucas. Why spare America's most proficient serial killer of all time? Some say Henry did some contract killing for Poppy bush while he was CIA then VP. So, Henry got to live out his remaining years behind bars while everyone else went to their death. And he said Saddam was bad !! LOL...
