Bush Pick For CIA #2 Is Former Marine-Violates Law-Both Can't Be Military
Edited on Tue May-09-06 05:43 PM by kpete
Bush's supposed pick for CIA #2 is a former marine, would appear to violate law saying Director and Deputy of CIA can't both be military
by John in DC - 5/09/2006 06:27:00 PM

1. Bush is reportedly going to put Stephen Kappes as the new #2.

2. Kappes is a former marine.

3. According to the law, it looks like the Director and the Deputy of the CIA can't both be current or former military

(c) MILITARY STATUS OF DIRECTOR AND DEPUTY DIRECTORS. -(1)(A) Not more than one of the individuals serving in the positions specified in subparagraph (B) may be a commissioned officer of the Armed Forces, whether in active or retired status.

(Sailor over at VidiotSpeak discovered the law thing).

1. Make that 751 laws.
I'd laugh if I weren't working on getting the end of this rope to resemble a noose.

2. My Marine friends have always said,
"There's no such thing as a 'former' Marine."

3. Wikipedia just says
Edited on Tue May-09-06 05:53 PM by igil
"Kappes joined the CIA in 1981 after five years as an officer in the U.S. Marine Corps."

The law stipulates commissioned officer. Any ex-Marines around that could clarify if there are non-commissioned officers in the Marines, and the odds that Kappes is one?

6. ???
Odd link, if you were actually trying to say something useful.

It's a reasonable question I asked: A law applies if it applies; you can't just say, "Ah, the law must apply because I so, so want it to apply."

Little questions of what the law says and whether it actually is applicable are for people who like reality and truth, not faith and truthiness.

So, I'll ask again: Does the law apply?

7. Never say can't when it comes to Bush*
Laws were meant to be broken and Bush* is doing his best to break them all.
