A *possible* Mrs Alito breakdown theory and I am not bashing .
I have an honest question as to why the gop would've pulled such a stunt. On the outset it would seem that the repugs would have nothing to gain by such an action. Alito wouldve mostly gotten by an a squeaker.

I believe that the 'gop might" be trying to frame sympathy for the elections for the repug congressman. In short that if Mrs Alito didn't really have a breakdown I bet we'll be seeing wave after wave of Mrs Alito crying in gop campaign election footage. Complete with the slogan "Dems make woman cry."

I am not bad mouthing Mrs Alito here. I admit this is idle speculation. But I was wondering if this was a way of making the gop look sympathetic too woman and make the dems look bad. Do I have a valuable theory here or do I need to lay off the mystery network.

1. Maybe something is up behind the scenes
It is quite strange. She had her smug look while Kennedy was asking about strip searching a ten year old girl and she has two children. Why didn't she cry than?

12. Maybe the simple explanation is the logical one
She's a bit emotionally UNSTABLE. I mean, think about it. She's married to a racist, sexist asshole who doesn't care about children. It's an abusive relationship, in that context! She's always known her situation, and now, through the magic of TV, everyone does!

Oh, the PAIN!!!!

2. like they did with the Paul Wellstone memorial
yeah, i can see that. they always do that. they can't win on issues or their record so they always come up with some last minute thing which has nothing to do with anything other than pulling on people's emotions.

9. I will NEVER forget that

Of all the low things the GOP has done over the year, spinning the memorial of a man with such integrity and human decency as Paul Wellstone possessed really took the cake. I wish I was still in Minnesota, I would dedicate every spare moment to defeating that slime bag Coleman in '08.

3. Personally, I don't think it was a 'stunt'
Edited on Thu Jan-12-06 03:36 AM by Mind_your_head
But I would bet that "all is not right" in the Alito household either ~ for whatever reason. We don't have enough facts to know what's really going on, but clearly something is not 'right' (as in 'not good, right, and true' or correct).

edit to add: (as in 'not good, right, and true' or correct)

5. I don't think there's a way to apply conventional
logic or reasoning to republican women--it's a contradiction in terms.

Not trying to be flippant here. My experience with too many gop women is that they blindly buy into all aspects of the party without questioning. Or there are thost that are so hateful (bigoted, greedy, self righteous, etc.) the gop is the perfect party for them.

8. Agreed
The women bought into the GOP because it was the beautiful party who didn't waste their beautiful minds on such things as war. Now they are being questioned, and the poor little things are shedding tears. Poor babies.

6. The Alito's are upper crest
It's probably the first time she didn't receive adoration and just got criticism. You know, her idea of hard knocks in this world.

I wonder how these people would have made it if they were born to poor families without posh treatment. I will cry no tears for them.

7. She was just crying because Graham was hitting on her husband.
Lindsey was simply GUSHING at him and FLIRTING like a young deb.
She probably felt intimidated.

13. Graham pulled an old lawyer stunt
which I have seen many times. He was so lovey dovey sympathetic and this was deliberately planned to get her crying. When I have seen that in the courtroom it is usually the witness/plantiff who is on the stand who does the crying. However, when the wife is sitting so publicly behind the person being questioned it works just as well. In this case he was trying to get the sympathy of the jury of public opinion. The whole thing is a crock!

Another thing--who are all those women sitting behind Alito anyway? They all look like they are going to some sort of party, especially the one on Tuesday who was wearing what I would call a cocktail suit--black with a sequin border around the neck of the jacket and down both sides of the front. This is the most unprofessional looking crowd I have seen in a long time and what in the world are they doing at a Senate confirmation hearing?

16. I can hear that solemn voice-over now
"Judge Samual Alito just wanted a chance to serve on the Supreme Court...."
"But the Democrats brought his wife to tears in their quest to harm family values."

"Vote Republican, because Democrats kill babies".

18. She's crying because she's so ugly.
She must have caught a glimpse of herself in the monitor.

Sorry to be so petty. It's late (or early), I'm tired and I have no sympathy for right wing femifascists.

Plus, she really is butt ugly.
