A time of war?
Edited on Thu Jan-12-06 04:25 AM by dgauss
Is any one else annoyed by this phrase? It’s repeatedly used to justify a whole lot of things that are not justifiable. What war are they talking about?

The War in Iraq? That is not a war. It began as an invasion and is currently an occupation. There was no realistic threat to US citizens.

The War on Terror? That is not a war. It's a slogan. A slogan that sits parasitically atop a serious problem. Something used by people that have figured out that they can profit, in one way or another, from the mindset such a slogan creates. It has more to do with the field of marketing than the battlefield.

The professional propagandists and marketers understand how to conflate these two non-wars into a single “Time of War” to serve their own purposes. And that’s really what it is. That’s really what we’ve sunk to.

No doubt there are dangers out there, so cringe as you will, republicans in name. But the biggest danger is you, so susceptible to manipulation.

3. So many wars...so little time
We've got the war on terra...the war on drugs...the war on poverty...the war on violence.. to my knowledge congress hasn't passed articles of war on any of these...so although they might call them "wars" they actually aren't!

welcome dgauss...nice post!

5. Exactly.
Without a declaration of war, there is no war. There is an illegal abomination going on wasting lives, money, and what little goodwill we had remaining in the free world, but it is technically not a war.
