Oh fer *crying out loud*-Do you know what you are talking about?
I had an early morning feeding call with the baby and I turned on the TV to see "Earlier Today" with the following tease for the Today Show "Did
Democrats go to far?" about Mrs.Alito crying.

As I sat there I just stared at the TV-Is this really how this has been spun since I watched the evening news?

What I wanted to scream was

DO YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT?

Did you watch the hearings? I did.
Do you know who was speaking when Mrs.Alito started crying? Lindsey Graham (R-SC)
Do you know what he said? I do because I watched the damned thing-He had a very sweet and touching soft spoken Southern gentleman Mayberry speech about how he trusted Alito and thought he was a "good man" who did well in raising his children and so forth. It was very touching and very nice. I could see how she was moved in such a way given the situation.

Sure enough at 7AM sharp our friend Katie was on with :D Joe :D Biden :D and right below the split screen image were the words "Did Democrats go to far?" (video will be available soon). Biden did pretty well and he said that YES (answered her direct question directly) there were decisions in Alito's past that were anti-woman and anti-black. Basically paternalistic rich corporate elite white male oriented...you know, conservative.

Now for the ending part:

It's not like Mrs.Alito had to see her war hero husband being openly accused of inflicting a self-inflicted wound on himself so he could win a medal and 30 years later become President or another so let's keep things in perspective for crying out loud.

5. Don't let them get away with it..
I'm a big believer in calling or e-mailing everyone you can get in touch with at a network and letting them know that they aren't fooling anyone with their one-sidedness. They need to realize that some members of the public see through them. It may not seem like much..but if everyone did it...it would have an impact.

3. "I am so sorry for what you have been put through"
Lindsay Graham's oily apology is outrageous. This was planned, orchestrated, scripted and timed to make it for prime time. Anybody who believes anything different is being a damn fool.

10. "Huckleberry Graham"
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x2363767

See NoExit's thread above.

I was going to go with the "this is staged" angle (which I would be shocked if it weren't) but I went another way with this. I should have known how this would be spun when ABC mentioned that she started to cry and had to leave the room ( I missed that on the C-Span stream-must have need caught, packaged, and mass disseminated while I was on my way home).

Right on time for the evening news huh?

4. Ms. Alito: what about the cries of the victims from your husband's
decisions? Hmmmmm? I think the 10 year old strip-search victim would be a lot more sympathetic on tv than YOU. REPUGs better tone it down!

7. Graham did good (in repuke eyes)
They just wanted to get Mrs. Borkalito crying and figured a 'southern gentleman' (who majorly trips my gaydar) could help evoke a few tears so that this image could be shown on the nightly news and somehow democrats would be blamed for the tears

Idiots!

8. But, but, but...
It's only valid to say that Democrats attack people and hurt their feelings. Did you not get the memo?

Yes, this nonsense has gone way too far. I hope the Dems rip him apart today with the CAP information. I hope his wife is there to stare and smirk as she has done the past two days. If Graham upsets her that much, she needs to be somewhere else. Or blend into the background. She's not exactly upsetting the hubby, no matter what she does. He couldn't care less, judging by his complete lack of reaction to her emotions.

11. Hard to blend into the background wearing plaid
along with your daughter. Interesting that thogh chose such distinctive and coordinated wear for the day that she got the most attention. :tinfoilhat:, of course.

9. Why do Republicans hate democracy?
They hate every single aspect of it.

They don't believe there's anything in our Constitution protecting the minority from the majority.

They come unhinged when people practice their right to air their grievances in public or take them to court.

They go ballistic if anyone suggests that all the votes in an election should be counted.

They're always quick to point out that the US isn't even a democracy although our Constitution is bursting with democratic nuances.

And now, GASP, Senators have the effrontery to ask a Supreme Court nominee questions. It's the Politics-of-Personal-Destruction to expect an answer from Alito that makes any kind of sense. So far, every answer he's given on the topic of CAP sounds like a lie. Maybe that's why his wife is crying, because she hates seeing her hubby lie so much. (It's the old "Daddy drinks because Mommy cries" defense.)

I'm gagging already.

12. The article Kennedy cited yesterday
the one about "people need to know their place" well that in a nutshell is conservatism. Know your place, do as you are told. I became a Dem (more of a NOTRepublican) while I was in the Army it was like living in the Republican perfect world.

17. This is Drudge's main headline
ALITO WIFE LEAVES HEARING IN TEARS AFTER DEM ATTACK

Wed Jan 11 2006 17:22:11 ET
**Exclusive**
Judge Samuel A. Alito’s wife Martha left the confirmation hearing room in tears this evening, the DRUDGE REPORT has learned.

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) apologized to the Judge’s family for the behavior of his fellow committee members during the course of the last three days.

Sen. Graham said: “Judge Alito, I am sorry that you’ve had to go through this. I am sorry that your family has had to sit here and listen to this.”

Democrats on the Judiciary Committee have attacked Judge Samuel A. Alito over his membership in Concerned Alumni of Princeton and his involvement in the Vanguard case.

One senior Republican in the hearing room said of the situation: “After three full days of attacks against her husband’s character, Mrs. Alito had enough. Democrat behavior during this hearing has not only been wrong, it’s been embarrassing. Ted Kennedy is nothing but a bully.”
Developing...
