Khephra's rememberances
I want to thank all of you who remembered Scott this past weekend. It was bittersweet. I hope he knows how valued he was.

(or whatever name Kef would attach to where he is) and he, Jeff, and Robin are having a blast!

I miss Kef everytime I log onto DU. Every single time---I wish I had met him.

9. he made this place what it is today.
i remember skinner once said that there was a time when kef WAS the late breaking news forum.

i used to try scouring the internet for juicy stories and beat kef to the punch.
occassionally i found a story that wasn't on lbn, but by the time i had done all the copying and pasting necessary to post, he nearly always beat me and i had to ask to have my post deleted as a duplicate.

eventually i gave up.

fortunately, others here didn't, and lbn and the other forums thrive in no small part due to the momentum created by kef. i don't think you'll ever fully appreciate how much of a key contributor he was.

20. Here's a lovely blessing for you Momma Kef
for raising your son with true values and such integrity. . .

"BLESSING

I send you light to hold you, to hold you in love.
I send you light to heal you, to heal you in love.

May you love, honor, and cherish the preciousness and
uniqueness of your own being and of each other being in
this world.

May you see your own goodness and beauty reflected
wherever you look.

May you be contented and appreciative of all life's
bountiful gifts.

May the splendor and majesty of your being guide
your thoughts, words, and actions.

May your pain and fear be transformed into strength,
understanding and compassion.

May the shining light of your being radiate peace and
harmony wherever you are.

May you be suffused with happiness, joyfully
celebrating each day you are alive.

May you be abundant in all wealth and rich in generosity,
sharing your blessings freely.

May you be a soothing balm of kindness and a fragrant
blossom of love to everyone you meet.

May you be well, whole and healthy.

May the great love and compassion of your heart
embrace the suffering of all beings everywhere.

May the inner light of your purity and perfection
dissolve the clouds of discord, despair, and conflict.

May the intelligence and wisdom of your infinite mind
give you clarity in a confusing world.

May you trust that you are loved, cared for and supported
by the infinite-always.

May you possess the precious magic jewel of gratitude
that transforms all life into a paradise.

May you pause for a moment each day to remember
this blessing upon you, and calling forth the full power
and magnificence of your own being, may you pass it
on to all beings everywhere.

I send you light to hold you, to hold you in love.
I send you light to heal you, to heal you in love."

22. He knew.
Only a deeply loved passion could swell into the phenomenal quantities of lightening fast topics he gave us. I still don't know how he did it. And, I was lucky enough to show my admiration, just once, face to face. It takes a lot of us working together to do what he had done. We had a common goal. I have ... well, we have, work to do. Lots and lots of work to do. My best to Momma Kef. Do well.

23. Hi Momma Kef!
Yes, he is still sorely missed by everyone. I posted a thread linking back to the DU threads on 9/11/01. Scott kept everyone informed that morning. That's a big part of his legacy, in my opinion. Here's the thread I posted (it has the links to the original posts from 9/11):

There are many comments in the thread about how much we miss Scott...

I hope you are well - please drop in more to say hello!:hi::hug:

I still miss Khephra's presence on DU. It hasn't been the same since he left us.

Take good care of yourself, and may you find some small bit of comfort in the knowledge that your son influenced a lot of people whom he never met in person.

31. one more Keph rememberance
Never met him in person, but Keph and I had a great discussion about our shared addiction to the 'Pharoah' city-building game a few years ago. I was recovering from a head injury (kept all my marbles, thankfully) and something as seemingly mundane as talking about a computer game really helped keep my spirits up. Thanks, Keph, see you on the other side of the Styx.

47. Momma Kef, you should go and look in the Archives
It will give you an understanding of why he was so much appreciated here.

In a world where truth is scarce and media is reluctant to probe, a person like your son is very valuable.
I recently dug into the 2001-section of the DU, and found this:

khephra (35840 posts) September 6th 2001
Rumsfeld gives vague warning of something happening soon in Asia
and fights congress about cuts in missile defense, but I'm only going to quote the really weird section:

"The secretary told reporters, however, that the changes -- including a shift in security emphasis from Europe toward Asia -- had the potential for significant impact.

``You know, it's tough to know what this will all look like when you look back one, two, three years from now,'' he said.

``But I think that in the things that have been done and are close to being announced in September, October, there is at least a good possibility we will look back and say that there are in there three, four or five things that are truly significant.''"

http://www.democraticunderground.com/cgi-bin/duforum/duboard.cgi?az=show_thread&om=3708&forum=DCForumID5&archive=yes

A post very typical for his work; short, sharp and to the point. Information given, question asked.
Premonitions of what was to come?
We don't know, but already he was wide awake - at a time when most of us still slept soundly.

I hope it doesn't break your heart to see him come alive like this, Momma Kef. The Internet is unforgiving in that respect; it leaves the thoughts and words untouched, as if the person is still among us. It is indeed bittersweet.

Sadly, I didn't know your son, I had just started reading and posting at the DU and tried to get a grip on all the information flowing here.
But I remember very well the shock and sadness his passing caused, and also the quiet respect the citizens here showed for him.
It is a tribute to his friendly personality, but also to the amazing workload he had on his shoulders.
Scott was one of the driving forces in building and maintaining the Latest Breaking News forum; a genuine new invention in information distribution.
He saw that this was possible, he knew what to do, and he did it. And more.

A bright mind is a beacon to others in dark times, and in the Age of Information Wars, Scott was a leading figure, a soldier.

He is an inspiration for us all.
