Poll question: Any illustrators out there?
During this past year, I have reflected on my life with my son. How sweet and special he was. I have dedicated a children's book to Scott (Khephra).

It is a story about him at five years old and his fear of the dark. (My brother fostered this fear by hiding in the closet, under the bed etc to scare him. Out side of wanting to murder my brother, I developed a story line with a bean bag dog that I made magical that would protect him all night long. The word I used for Scott to say at bedtime was Sha-tim Botch-a-ni-ni. It was suppose to mean I love you baby boy. Part French and part Hungarian.

This did the trick and his fear of going to sleep vanished.

When I started writing this book, it was as if I had help. It flowed so fast, my fingers could barely keep up. I am sure Scott was helping.

I have it copyrighted and now am looking for an illustrator. I don't know what the going rate is, but I am sure I can find a way to pay for your time.

Each page has text and a description of what I want the drawing to be. Hippiechick suggested I send a picture of Khephra as a little boy and try to create the character to resemble him.

If you or anyone you know is an illustrator, or publisher, please pm me.

Thanks.

1. Hi, Momma Kef...
I'll try to keep this post in view in case there are any illustrators who can help you.

I think you might need to repost this in the General Discussion Forum, though. You accidentally posted it as a "Poll" and so folks may not understand what it's about.

What a wonderful story about Kef and I wish you good luck with publishing it.

a professional illustrator. She is incredibly sweet and kind.

http://www.carolinesgarrett.com/

Some of the info on her site is out of date, but the email should work.
If not, Message me and I'll get you her private email.

I don't know what her going rate is, but discuss it with her.

5. Momma Kef, I did something very similar after my son was stillborn
My daughter, 7 at the time, had a very difficult row following her brother's death. Of course, my husband and I were of little help as we were dealing with our own grief. When I did begin to try to help my daughter, there were books on the subject of death, but didn't seem to be many which dealt with stillborns or other children who die before birth. So, my daughter and I collaborated on a children's book to fill that void.

As I was reading your post I was struck by how similar the storylines were between our books. You see, my daughter imagined there was a dragon under her bed which would come out at night and whisk her away from her own feelings of guilt and from the overall sadness within our home.

Our original book was illustrated by one of the local art teachers -- done pro bono because the book was provided free of charge to local hospitals and, in turn, given to families who experienced a stillbirth or other pre-birth loss. Those books have all been distributed and the second edition was illustrated by my now 14-year-old daughter.

In any event, I just wanted you to know that I also believe Kef is working through you and helping you through a difficult time in a way he only can. Our children always have their souls close to our own, even after they've died. The book will be a wonderful tribute to him and a real blessing to other parents.

If by chance you do not locate an illustrator here on DU, send me a PM. The network I use for my business has several illustrators.
